Republicans like Paul Ryan are not fiscal libertarians. Although they talk about cutting spending, they vote for more spending. Their government in the bedroom and world police policies are expensive, intrusive, and unnecessary.

Democrats like Barack Obama are not social Libertarians. Obama has extended the Patriot Act, extended the Afgan war, expanded drone strikes, continued FCC and 2257 censorship, done more medical marijuana raids than bush, and insists on keeping the government involved in consenting relations between adults.

Democrats and Republicans like to talk about libertarian ideas because they are popular. Most people want less governement.

...

But their big-government ideas, while unpopular with most people, are very popular with the corporations and special interests that unfairly benefit from those big government programs.

The Libertarian Party offers no big government programs. We offer only cuts in government. We recognize that the government is the problem, not the solution.

Not in favor of either. My beef w/ the Repubs (besides screwing over Dr Paul at the National Convention) is that they're just as bad about spending, just on different things.

Where's the study that says that most people favor smaller government?

Very few people or politicians have the resolve for the government they need, and cling to the government they want.

IF there was a way to get rid of the lobbyists, and force bills to be single item entities much of the problem would disappear, and the governments would become much more transparent. But we just dream.

No one said that. Where do you get a study from "I think many people want less government..as long as less government doesn't mean THEIR favorite programs get cut."

Do you know the difference between "a study," and "I think?"
