I'm not sure why anyone is taking this thread seriously. Author Herbert Spencer (1820-1903) was....well....a weirdo. AND, probably Sabcat's great great grandfather. Spencer was a precursor to Darwin, a early advocate of evolution. Spencer is the guy who coined the phrase "survival of the fittest" and a great proponent of "individualism", which, as you can imagine didn't go over well in the Victorian era.

Don't get me wrong. Spencer was a brainiac, but the problem with geniuses is they aren't very functional in society and don't understand how to communicate with real people--human beings.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who is an advocate of survival of the fittest isn't particularly smart....and more than likely they ARE extremely selfish.

I always find myself asking 'Fittest for what?' It can only mean 'fittest for what is going to happen tomorrow and later', and how the hell does anyone know what that is?

Social Darwinism was and still is a conceit to justify existing social conditions, i.e. hierarchies. Now if someone can explain to me how trust fund babies and dot com hustlers are "fitter" and deserve to keep collecting their billions, while actual working people see a rising tide of housing, medical and other costs of living eroding their earnings..I'd like to know what it is.

The State is essential for the continuance of capitalism - they need to take vast sums from us to keep their swag safe, the Central Committee of the Thieves.

The problem is "us" being burdened with an income and choices. The state should be the only care taker of wealth and by utilizing a strong ruling elite political class, should be distributing the wealth in the form of services and health and housing to each according to their need
