This election matters because it shows the intent of the Iranian people. It shows their disgust with how isolated--how poor--how limited they have become due to the extremely regressive far-right leadership. Hassan Rouhani is an extremely intelligent man. He and his cabinet have been educated abroad--many getting their PhDs in the U.S. It has been said that the new Ayatollah could be elected this week.
Obviously Rouhani and the voters are moving toward tolerance, openness and economic enrichment. The unfrozen assets will enable Iranian leaders to devote most of these resources to domestic needs. After three years of severe sanctions, the economy is starving for financial support to spur job creation. This is a win-win, not just for Iran but for the U.S. and it's allies.

Yet they find money to fund terrorism. How convenient.

Pretty much. This president supported the Islamist militants in power over the Iranian people in 2009. Despicable.

Just pitiful.

No form of support would have been helpful other than US invasion, and that wouldn't have worked either.

And when it didn't work, or turned Iran into another Iraq or bombed-out Syria, your damned side would have blamed Obama for that, and the Mullahs would have said, "See? We told you so."

Doing something isn't always better than doing nothing, but that's a truth obviously lost on you.

Concise RNG, I was going to say that you've explained your Iran prejudices in every post in this thread.

What actions would you have liked the President to have taken in 2009 ?

Air support. That's always good for wasting cities and non-combatants and accomplishing nothing good.

Oh yeah, and threatening world oil supplies and driving the cost of oil into the stratosphere ... indefinitely.
Thanks from Camelot
