Smile Greetings! I Come In Peace (ZAP)

One of the hardest things for me to do is talk about myself. So, if I seem odd it is mostly that...and the fact I probably am odd. I am a liberal Texan. I'm working on that and will soon retire to the more congenial climes of Colorado (long about next August).

I'm 62 and a somewhat doting Grand-Dad. My degrees are from UTA but I haven't used either in a long while. I have a little concierge IT practice and I am the Assistant Baker at The Hole Thing, a gourmet donut shop. I spent just less than a decade in the USN entering as an E-3 and leaving as an O-3. Indeed, I was a Mustang! I left for Grad school (and to stay married) then went into Oil & Gas with Sun E&P then Oryx Energy. In the process I transitioned from Revenue Management to Database Management. A decade later I moved to retail management in the money services business. And that brings us to my current circumstances.

I've been a member of a couple of other boards. One was ultimately to conservative (and intolerant) and the other had no rules at all. That was just a bit too much for me. I've been impressed with the robust, but generally civil, exchanges. The community is bigger than I am used to but we will just have to see how that works out. I'm really an Independent with liberal leanings. I have some rather unconventional attitudes. Most of these stem from the understanding that freedom and liberty are inherently risky propositions...and I LIKE risk.

This seems like a good time to address the fact that I CAN be long-winded. Long responses were a constant complaint on the other boards I mentioned. I just can't seem to present a meaningful comment in ten or twelve words in two sentences...unless I am just being insulting. Then I do a mean one liner. But, I don't really think insults advance discussion much though. I am also capable of learning from exchanges and changing my position. I have even been known to apologize for ill-considered comments.

Finally, I take great pride in being a "Family Man" and I mention them from time to time when I am posting conversationally. I have 2 Granddaughters, 2 daughters and one son. I have one wife and two ex-wives (one safely deceased). I also have one insane step Mother-in-Law and a (hopefully) soon to be ex-Son-in-Law. Yeah, it is a Hell of a family.

I look forward to posting here. I've missed being part of a community like this. As you get to know me I will get to know you. It should be interesting and entertaining for all involved.

welcome to the board - with a thick skin and good writing skills, you'll be a huge hit here!

Welcome!

I'm the resident Fascist/Nazi/America-Hating Right Wing Republican Racist, depending on who you ask.
Thanks from pana8

Welcome, I look forward to our getting to know each other.

About 32 years ago, I was from Texas, born in Houston.

Howdy partner.

So did I. However, I entered as an E-1.
