Good morning, let me introduce myself

George Eccles, writing as G W Eccles, graduated from the London School of Economics with a law degree and subsequently became a partner in one of the major international financial advisory firms.

In 1994, George left London to move to Russia and Central Asia during the tumultuous period that followed the breakup of the Soviet Union. His work involved extensive travel throughout Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan - often to places with restricted access to foreigners. During his time there, he advised a number of real-life oligarchs how best to take advantage of the opportunities that became available as regulation crumbled and government became increasingly corrupt.

His first thriller: The Oligarch, was awarded a Silver Medal both at the Global E-book Awards 2013 and at the Independent Publishers Book Awards 2013, as well as being selected as IPPY Book of the Day. His second novel, Corruption of Power, was published by Peach Publishing in December 2015.

George is married and now lives with his wife in a hilltop village not far from Cannes in the South of France.

Welcome aboard. I take it you speak fairly fluent Russian, and have probably read Shippler, Broken Idols Solemn Dreams, about the pre-Gorbachev years during the 1980s. And no doubt you speak fairly fluent Russian. It would be fascinating to hear more about some of your experiences.

My law degree is from an ABA school in San Diego, California. But it sounds as though your training is more Blackstone-esque than mine, which is strongly devoted to American jurisprudence with an emphasis on the U.S. Constitution.

It would be fascinating to here your opinions on some of the more recent issues we've been discussing here in the States.

There are many posters on this forum who are full of opinion with little actual knowledge of history or the law, but don't let them discourage you. There are also some members here who are quite knowledgeable, so let's have some fun, shall we?

I would like to hear your take on Mr. Putin.

Welcome to you GW. DTT has a real, live, published author now. I'm an author, real, live, but unpublished.

Five years ago, I married a Russian-born Ukrainian lady and since then I've studied the history of the Slavic people learning much about what I never was taught in school, and then studying and watching the history of the Putin days, sad indeed.

I walked Kreschatik Street in Kiev during the Euro 2012 event not knowing at the time that I was drinking in the vintage of post-Soviet Ukraine. I likewise have watched Ukraine struggle with corruption that knows no pause even when faced with war.

I await your insights and observations eagerly! Again, welcome.
