Homeless poster

Yes, I am now a homeless poster.

I was a decade long poster at another political forum but my insistence on a rational approach to Trump made me the target of posters who I was long aligned with and respected. Some very smart men. I was insulted and called names not because I supported Trump but because I did not condemn him and act irrationally in hatred for him. It was before the actual election that I decided it best to move on.

So the last two years I have been posting on another site that I have belonged to about a decade. Sadly, two months ago I decided to no longer post there either. This time it was the hatred of the Trumpets that made me decide to move on. 3 different posters who I had respected for years showed their true colors. One stalked me on the net to find out my identity, another thought that I should be a candidate to be shot.

So why do those on the right and those on the left become upset with me?

Yes, you guessed it, because I will not sign up for either tribe. I am fiscally conservative, socially liberal and worst of all reasoned and independent in thought. A quality no tribe is comfortable with.

I'll tell you now, I was open to Trump, predicted his nomination (before Iowa) although not his election.

Welcome to DTT, where all opinions are welcome, but all attitudes aren't.

Hi - welcome to the forum.

I've never understood how a socially liberal person can be a social conservative - it costs money to provide the services that social liberals are in favor of providing.

I'll be interested in your viewpoints.

(Even though I loathe Dear Leader )
Thanks from noonereal

you may be confusing a fiscal conservative with a cheap azz

not the same thing at all

also consider issues like TG folks wanting to use the toilet or gays wanting to marry
no cost to society at all
just letting people be who they want to be

you know, freedom

I agree that those things are sort of no-brainers - and anybody who has any concept of equality and freedom would have no issue with either.

But, I don't really think of those as "liberal" issues - more human rights issues.

When I think of "liberal issues," I think of environmental protections, enforcement of separation of church and state, child abuse definitions and protections, progressive public education and public school student protections, free speech protections, hate crime enforcement, homeless aid, food and housing for poor and disenfranchised families, etc.

This doesn't mean, of course, that liberals aren't on the side of gays, women, refugees, transgendered, African-Americans, or any other maligned minority. Just that I believe those are more human rights oriented.

As a liberal I can't just take on EVERYTHING.

It is difficult for me to respond to your homeless plight but I have been homeless twice in my long life and locked up in more jails than I have fingers and toes. The homeless Texan told me in California that when you find yourself at the bottom of a deep hole there is only one way out and up. You do not need a helping hand and climb out of the deep hole using your grit and self-determination.
