Do you believe that religion is generally a positive or a negative force?

I think the world would be more peaceful without people defending a made up stance on a topic where there can be only opinion.

I voted for both. Religion clearly has positive and negative aspects from my perspective. I tend to use historical data in addition to the impact in a community as my criteria. I imagine everyone has different criteria for such a contraversial topic though.

~ GOD is the invisible, eternal, immaterial force, which animates the physical world with life, and is capable of knowing ~

There's no reason that couldn't have all been one post. Quit spamming, eh?

What is at the center of all living things? Stars.

|02| From stars to supernovas

"Somewhere between 4 to 5 billion years ago, a giant star burned hydrogen and helium from the Big Bang and cooked them into carbon, oxygen and nitrogen-the ashes of fusion.

They remained buried in a star for millions of years until the star suddenly exploded, increasing it's brightness by a billion for about a month and expelling all of it's ashes into space.

We call those explosions supernovas and they happen pretty frequently. One occurs in the Milky Way (our galaxy) about once every hundred years.

Our own lucky star formed from the blobby ashes of a supernova, and Presto! 4.6 billion years later it became the sun. A nearby blob became the earth. So, you see, we really are all made of stars."

This is from the book: "mental_floss presents Condensed Knowledge", Condensed Physics, Really Big Bangs-3 Huge Explosions We're Actually Glad About.

Whether or not God is to be found in this, I'll leave up to you to decide. To me, it shows that all things are connected in ways we can only begin to imagine and that our existence at all is 'miraculous' and should never be taken for granted.

I think religion has been a necessary evil for the purposes of civilization, keeping order in society and giving hope to those who have nothing to look forward to in this life, (and providing the hope of a glorious eternal afterlife), and reason for things that occur in life where no true reason exists, except that it is a part of being alive. (Things like death, disease, pain in childbirth, uncomfortable emotions, etc...)

Mathew 17: 20 - 21

And when he was demanded of the Pharisees when the Kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, "the Kingdom of God cometh not with observation" (of the Law)

"Neither shall they say, Look here! or Look there! for behold, the Kingdom of God is within you."

I know, darn that science. I should be reading a book, written by people who sat around inhaling volcanic fumes and eating ergot contaminated bread and had hallucinations about an imaginary friend who talked to them, that has been edited numerous times throughout history for the sake of the leaders of people who got insulted by the way the it was worded because it made them look bad. Nah, I'll stick to science.
