I hope I don't offend when I said you remind me of a dog.
Being called a dog does not offend me when I have been called a bastard (untrue) and son of a bitch (true). : )

You are mixing up your aircraft, the Spitfire was built with a metal body, you are thinking of the De Havilland Mosquito.

Thanks, I was mistaken and it was the Mosquito that had a plywood airframe. Now I wonder what kind of wood was used, Spruce is light and strong.

The Spitfire was also used by the USAAF as a fighter and recon aircraft

Most of the aircraft was made of plywood. The fuselage was a frameless shell made of balsa wood sandwiched between sheets of birch.

Oh my God, England was saved by balsa wood. Balsa is a very soft pine tree that I carved ship models in when a young tyke. There are many Oak trees in England but don't use Red Oak that splits easily. Use White Oak, the most strongest wood.
