Comedy works because it is ahead of the curve. They push the envelope, talk about taboo topics in a way that gets them out in the open and allows people to address things they are thinking but uncomfortable verbalizing in public. To try and put it into a box, worry about someones "feels" ruins it. It is like flag football. It represents football, follows the same basic rules and concepts but is clearly a shell of the original.

Sure there is a place and an audience for G stand up but to try and sensor the entire art would be like to have told renaissance artists tgat nudes were offensive and no longer acceptable.

As I've said before - I like Sarah Silverman. Her humor is very adult, very politically incorrect, very nasty and very smart. I like it.

Using slurs is not included.

If you can't be funny without saying nigger, spic, kike or faggot, you're not very funny and need to find a new line of work.

However, in this instance, Silverman was using it to make a point that using it - even with the word 'love' - was offensive.
The biggest fault with the joke was that it wasn't funny.

I don't find Dave Chappelle funny - I don't find Eddie Murphy funny - I didn't find Don Rickles funny - I don't find ridiculing and demeaning and degrading people funny.

I'm just funny that way.
Call me funny that way!

Depends on the comedian. When I stop laughing, it's usually because the comedian has become unnecessarily vulgar. Very few comedians can pull off vulgarity, and then, I find it's because they've already mastered clean delivery. Buddy Hackett was an excellent example of comic mastery, especially his special from 1983 that subsequently appeared on HBO.

I love crackers. Don't understand the loathing for Oreos. Bananas are healthy and Apples keep the doctors away on a daily basis.

Have we lost our sense of humor?

Comedians are a reflection of US society. Albeit, not one evenly balanced to reflect the views of the US in its entirety. But one that only reflects certain views that leaves out a large swath of the population on the joke while using them as a punchline.

I think for a comedian to truly standout now a days, they'd have to poke fun at the absurdity of our era instead of playing it safe and that is not politically correct.

Either every group is a punchline or a protected class! The latter only ends in more divided recrimination while the latter encourages us to laugh at our more cherished beliefs; including the personal all the while promoting more of a bonding moment proving that Americans can, indeed, take a joke once again.

I respect you trist, but i must ask, is she only funny when she not poking fun at a personally cherished belief you hold?

Doug stanhope is my favorite comedian. He used to be on the man show along w/ another comedian who used to be funny. Stanhope is still down to earth, a man of the people who pushes the envelope. The other is a puppet.
