Vietnam has an extremely totalitarian regime. They jail journalists who post things that the state is against and it is still difficult to this day to escape. I will try to find the thread on this where this was gone over so we dont have to clutter this one up but Vietnam is a very fucked up place.

Talked to many veterans my age who have gone back as tourists and all have said they had a very nice time. Found the Vietnamese people to be friendly and quite pro-American. *shrug*

Actually Einstein, this thread is about Ali and I was merely stating his reasons for his objection. Pick up a history book sometime. Race was Aliís platform.

everyone should refuse it, unless our country is being invaded. Fuck other countries. Let them perish in and of their own void.

As for the topic, I had to vote "other" because I can see validity in both camps.

Muhammad Ali was treated like royalty in this country before he was drafted. Civil Rights laws and desegregation had already been passed in this country. His argument was semi-valid because there was still plenty of turmoil and discrimination going on in the country AND he had a right to protest for religious reasons (whether one agrees with those reasons or the sincerity of them or not). I think he did the right thing, merely because I do not believe in the draft since globalism became the driving force behind American wars. People should choose what they live and die for in America- even if we don't like their decisions. That is what liberty is about.

On the other hand, ......

Actually, no matter which way I cut it, I think he did the right thing, so I guess I should have voted 'yes'.

What kept me from supporting it was the notion that he was treated like a 2nd class citizen. Granted, if he wasn't the boxing legend that he was, it would have been more believable- but even before he changed his name, people bent over backward for him. Even if they were doing it for their own selfish reasons.
