They are making it so the electoral votes in those states have to go to the popular vote winner. Since the states set the laws for voting, those laws will stand. It will become impossible for another Republican, which is the only party that has had to win by the electoral college only, to continue doing so in the future.

And with the population changing to decidedly more to the left, younger, and browner, that is going to happen a lot sooner than you might be comfortable with. And that's not mentioning the women who are steadily winning every special election that has happened since Dotard got in.

There won't be a record low turn out in November this year, like what happened in 2016, and it sure as hell won't be in 2020, and since 80% of the country doesn't own stocks, that isn't going to be a winning formula for you.

Of course this is all predicated on the fact Dotard makes it through one term without being indicted.

See you down the road spritz.
So some states are enacting laws that the winner of the popular vote gets their Electoral Vote? So basically the voters of the state with that new law won't matter at all? What happens if the GOP wins big, what are states like Vermont going to do? This seems like screwing up more of a screwed up system.

I think the EC is screwed up and makes little sense to me. A candidate does not have to win a majority of the voters, merely a plurality. This has happened in 1968 and 1992 where states were won by candidates on pluralities (Montana went to Clinton in '92 for example, Nixon won by pluralities in some of the southern states in '6.

The system makes it difficult for a third choice too, because if no gets to 270, the House picks the President and the third choice is gone. The election turns into a negative because voting for a third candidate is seen as indirectly voting for the candidate which is opposite of the third party, or in simpler terms "a wasted vote". No, Bush didn't win in 2000 because of Ralph Nader! The people who voted for Nader got off their ass, went to the booth and voted for Nader. If Nader wasn't there, the person wouldn't have voted for Gore.

It is screwy when one candidate gets 3,000,000 plus more votes, but loses by under 100,000 votes in three states. That's a screwy ass system of electing someone President. The EC had a nice run in the 20th Century, but now it is turning back into the crappy system it was in the 19th Century. No other nation with a democracy have this goofy system. I think the Founding Fathers were so flustered at how to elect a President, they all got drunk and came up with this. I blame you Ben Franklin, Canadian Whiskey and French whores....

The Federal Government should be in full control of elections on the Federal Level, just have a straight election, and the candidate with over 50 percent wins, and if no one gets that, then a runoff a month later. Californians and New Yorkers are irrelevant, since this is an American election.

The electoral college was implemented to protect this republic from becoming just another failed democracy. It's to prevent a mob of group thinkers dictating the lives of individual thinkers. It protects sovereignty.

I'm not too worried though. It's unlikely they will get the 270 electoral votes needed to change the system. Hillary only got 227 electoral votes (though credited with 234 on election night) and if they have 170 now, they've probably blown their load.

Contrary to what Leftists who spend all their time in echo chambers think, the Democrat Party is not becoming more popular and it is the blue states (you know, the few that are left) who are making this fuss. Considering the blue states traditionally have the most electoral votes to begin with and to have reached 170 already, is a good indicator that they aren't quite going to get there. If all the blue states decided to go this route, they'd still only have 229 electoral votes- that is 41 shy of passing it.

Considering how the blue states with the highest number of electoral votes in the country are already accounted for, trying to get 41 more votes away from the red states is near impossible. Highly unlikely.

I see no way in hell the compact between the states survives a constitutional test, if it even comes to fruition. Furthermore, your saying you want democracy by nullifying democracy on a state level. So if one of the compact states vote for one candidate, then their majority vote gets nullified. Fuck that. If you dont like the electoral college then change the constitution. The states compact agreement is nothing more than a end game around the constitution.
