the good life

what is a good life?

can you live your life in such a way that when you lay down to die you feel content?

or is that the wrong measure?

perhaps what a good life is varies with every stage of life.

still what would the best life look like?
Thanks from Athena

start out with a happy childhood, two parents, at least one set of intact grandparents. aunts, uncles, brothers, and sisters.

success in school, doesn't need to be top of every class, just so you work hard and feel good about it.

attract and be attracted to a faithful mate that makes you smile.

work in a stimulating field that keeps you interested and motivated. one that you feel you are really helping people

have children that do well. you see them leave the nest and on track to do better than you.

retire in comfort, switch to a new field, help people in other ways, freed from the pressure of having to earn a living.

sicken and die in such a way you get to say goodbye to all your family and they to you. and then the doctors drug you up so you die without discomfort.

any additions to the list?

I'm thinkin to live a good life you need a sense of purpose.

problem is I don't think there's a purpose persistent enuf to last your hole life that you can hope to fulfill.

So, how can you die content knowing you'll never complete your life's purpose?

The good life is being part of, and supporting, a culture that you believe in. I am not living the good life.

in the old testament of the bible "old and full of years" to describe the passing of select people, apparently to indicate a high level of contentment at the time of death.

I don't see that as possible for me at this time.

...IMO a good life is one lives with a purpose and leaves this existence in a better place than when they arrived for the people coming after them...Not to sure we're living up to that standard yet...

Nope. In no way are we respectful of Gaia. But this is in our nature and is an impetus to send us "out there"...

Wabi sabi...
