Ethical Dilemma of Genetic Engineering.

I am curious to know what you kind people think about genetic engineering in order to 'perfect' humans. Many genetic discoveries such as myostatin inhibition and the IGF-1 gene have lead new ethical debates as to whether or not we should implement these 'boosters' into humans. Do you believe human genetics should be tampered with? Or do you believe that we, as humans, are already a model of perfection and that we should let natural evolution take effect?

I'm a fan of letting nature take its course; aka evolution.
Thanks from Lyzza

It's going to happen, and it is evolution, it's a product of the large brains and opposable thumbs, which evolved the old way.
There is no evolution going on in the human population today, it's at equilibrium.
The super humans will kick off the next round of evolution, as old style homo sapiens becomes extinct replaced by faster, smarter, disease resistant homo magnificus

Hmm. Have you seen any Wal Mart shoppers lately? I would say the human race still has a way to go in terms of evolution.
Thanks from imaginethat and Todesengel

Evolution is always happening in every species on the planet. Whether or not we evolve to the point that we would be considered a separate species is another question.
Thanks from Franklin

What? Walmart is on the cutting edge of the evolutionary process.

Yes, and to answer your question, I think genetic engineering is very dangerous. It is very susceptible to abuse.

My preference is to change culture in such a way that it encourages positive evolution. Modern culture selects for stupidity and immorality (which explains Walmart shoppers). For more, see my old thread:

Positive Human Evolution Depends on God
