Knowledge of Good and Evil

Sometimes people do horrible things. We call that evil.

Sometimes people do kind, altruistic and self-sacrificing things. We call that good.

How do people choose which to do? Or do we choose at all? Is there something physical and/or genetic that directs us?

Our criminal justice system appears to be predicated on the principle that we control and are therefore responsible for the evil or the good we do.

Of course some people say we are products of heredity and environment. All our choices and actions are just consequences beyond our control.

I suppose most of what we call evil happens because some people lack the ability to feel what is called empathy.

Though many sociopaths never actually commit evil acts. They learn to mimic the emotions of those around them and blend with society while hiding their true nature.

Exactly.

And when someone says that gays do not deserve equal rights...they have religion...what they lack is empathy.

Sociopaths make good CEOs.
25% of CEOs are on the spectrum.
The Capitalist System favors sociopaths.

There are areas in the human brain that are underdeveloped in sociopaths. But we still don't know, are those areas underdeveloped because of genetics or because of lack of use?
