I believe the primary originator of what we call the scientific method to be Francis Bacon.
Another goalpost move. Science was not invented.

Some areas and some cultures advanced science, in part because they advanced the tools needed to advance science. Algebra was a big step, but not the step.

I don’t get some of your confusion. neither one of us has argued that algebra was the invention of science, or as I more specifically said, the scientific method

The first known attempt at codifying the scientific method as we use it today was written by Francis Bacon.

Perhaps you are either confused or misinformed.
Copernicus was a member in good standing of the Catholic Church until his death in 1543, he was never excommunicated and his book was not banned until 1616.

Galileo invented the telescope, for a very practical reason, to see the future.
From the roof of his building he would scan the horizon, and he could identify ships returning from the orient before anyone else. If you know a ship will be in port the next day, and you know where that ship was headed and what spices or goods it could purchase there, then you know the price of certain spices is going down when that ship gets close enough to identify with the naked eye. And with knowledge you can empty your warehouse of the spices at the current price, and replace them the next day with fresh spices at a much lower price.
No one knew how he did it, they just knew he knew the future and sold the information to certain spice merchants.
When that got back to the Vatican, they opened a file on Galileo.
When the controversy over his book The Starry Messenger was going on, the Pope suggested to Galileo that he publish a book, in the form of a dialog, explaining both sides of the argument, and Pope told Galileo his own personal theory on the subject.
Galileo published that book, and Pope's theory was put forth by a character named Simplicius.
The Pope was not amused.
