You think a couple of Hollywood elites having trouble getting work is more than a fart in a windstorm compared to stalin’s purges?

No, not even close.

If we (the World, or the West) ever crack fusion, we may very well be able to transmute elements & have limitless power, endless clean water & air & soil, travel the solar system & etc. But clean fusion is always 25 years away - & has been for a long time, from the 1950s CE, @ least.

China & India & the Tiger Nations are finding this out the hard way - there may simply be no way (under current energy production) to actually achieve an economic utopia for even most people, let alone the entire masses of the World. It's going to be a very hard slog for people for the next 50 - 100 years - if Climate Change keeps trending, lack of potable water, declining crop yields (on land, @ sea), acidification of the oceans, loss of pastureland - meaning less pasture for meat animals & dairy animals.
Free market capitalism has pulled more people out of grinding poverty than anything ever in the entire history of the human race.

You want less pollution, look at free market countries.

Less population growth, look at free market countries.

More opportunities for all, free market countries.

The choices we made have consequences

For more of everything all the time, you vote for free market capitalism, then. I see that - but I don't think it's sustainable - without some vast & nearly free source of energy. I think there are a couple of crises that are closing in on us - & it's going to be a real struggle to meet the challenges & move through them while keeping our nations together.
