It's Really Not Funny Anymore.

When did Maher start sounding like Rush. He just sounds mean and nasty anymore. His show has become more of a bully pulpit. Just rotten mean and nasty humor.

I just watched this: https://youtu.be/bH8Qc48jte4

I don't know what you mean by saying Maher sounds like Rush. Please explain what you mean. Maher did an excellent recap of Trump's first week in office noting, and this may never go away, the introduction at the highest levels of "alternative facts."

Now keep in mind, the moniker "alternative facts" wasn't invented by a critic, rather, it oozed from the lips of Kellyanne, the Counselor to the President, her official title btw. Before she christened the Age of Alternative Facts, she closed her eyes, took a big swallow:

And after delivering her payload, she went nonchalant. Alternative facts? You never heard of that before?

Trump supporters have been orgasmic over having a president who'll "tell it like it is," but what's the use of telling it like it is when the "it" is alternative facts? Please, you, or anyone, tell me.

Maher seemed truly flabbergasted, so maybe that's what you mean by saying he sounds like Rush, but I understand why. I have a longtime best friend who I've known since junior high, an intelligent and well-informed man. He's never let politics sway his views of seeing clearly what's happening.

That's changed. My God, all he does is parrot Trump talking points. I'm not exaggerating. It's as though his reasoning abilities have simply checked out, he seems comfortable with their checking out and it viscerally freaks me out. I literally lose it talking to him. "God has sent Donald Trump to make America great again." He's not a religious man.

Maher's incredulity over the last week mirrors mine. I don't know what to say to my friend. He's got a pre-packaged answer for everything. And we've got at least four more years of this insanity, and it is insane, and it's going to get more insane. Trump has mental illness. That's not debatable. It's unsettling to the core.

Why you focus on Maher rather than Conway is puzzling given Counselor to the President Conway's declaration that truth is negotiable.
Thanks from Hollywood and Daws77

...How did this become about Trump?...My indictment is of Maher, and most comedians these days, whether I agree with their positions or not...I've come to realize comedy and ridicule are two very different things...Maybe it is the fact that I do not find anything beneficial about either side of our corrupt ruling class (call them what they are)...Ruling class comedy is rendered useless, over half of our population voted for a babbling idiot who actually said if he ever ran for president he'd run republican because they had the stupider voter base...We got extremely lucky with Obama before that, way to many people vote who have no business voting...Mike Rowe was asked before the election to convince people to vote, his response was not if they aren't informed, he would not tell people to vote for the sake of voting, it still happened...Maher nastiness is not so subtle nor entertaining...It's not bringing people of varying viewpoint into the same room, he's just hanging around a bunch of yes men guests...When there is someone brave enough with a different viewpoint they are almost always ridiculed and shouted down...

That is a pretty good take on his show. Although, I noticed him heading from the left closer toward center the past 6 months or so. For some odd reason, Maher might be one of those guys who has that uncanny nose for shifting political winds. Then again, probably just coincidence.

Comedians can serve a vital purpose. So much of what we see, those of us who are looking that is, in politics is tragic, the good of the nation and its people sacrificed to the good of the party.

For those of us who are looking we're reduced to two reactions: we can cry, or laugh. There's a time for crying no doubt, but sometimes it's a better cathartic choice to laugh.

How is this about Trump? How is it not about Trump who's passing off easily documented lies as truth? He's gaslighting America.

Did you watch the Maher video I linked? It's funny in a "I wanna cry" sort of way. We're screwed. I wish we weren't, but we really are. We'll come out of this, the announced Age of Alternative Facts, but we'll be damaged by it. We are already damaged by it.

If guys like Maher can make us laugh at the absurdity swirling around us, then good on him.

Come on, you or Polari, point out something Maher said with which you take issue. Explain why it's wrong.

And then explain why it's OK for Trump to lie and denigrate, but it's wrong for Maher to point out his doing so.
