GOP Dumping Trump...but how?

Answer: The Electoral College

Top Republicans are now talking openly about a contested convention....but how to stop Trump. "Remember that Americans don’t directly elect the president. The Electoral College does: Slates of electors pledged to support presidential and vice presidential candidates are voted upon in each state every four years. Each state, and the District of Columbia, is apportioned at least three of the 538 electors, allocated by the total number of U.S. Senators and Representatives each state has."

And remember it may not be too late for Trump to run as an Independent.

just imagine if this was the other way around. just imagine if a state decided they didnt want to risk their electoral college votes going to, say, obama, so they didnt hold a presidential election and just allocated their electoral college as they wished. imagine the outrage.

I hadn't thought about the electoral college. But that would still leave the GOP in a catch 22. I think the backlash would be even worse than if they just dump him now.

The only way it would work is if, assuming the GOP won the election, every single delegate agreed to back another republican candidate. Which would anger both parties and almost every voter in the nation, no matter who they voted for. I'm thinking violence in the streets and tens of thousands, possible hundreds of thousands of pissed off and heavily armed of people storming DC. Could trigger and all out revolt.

The other option is they flip just enough votes and put the democrat in office. The delegates that flipped would probably need witness protection. There'd still be a significant chance of violence.

In either case it would certainly kill the GOP. I wouldn't place bets on any incumbent congressman or senator surviving the 2018 mid term elections.

You're kidding, right?? A flippant answer would be....EVERYTHING. But some specifics should include voting rights, for example:

1807: Women lose the right to vote in every state in the US for the next 113 years.

1869: The Fifteenth Amendment is passed in Congress and ratified by the states. The right to vote is now legally guaranteed to all male citizens regardless of “race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”

1919-20: The Nineteenth Amendment is adopted by Congress and ratified by the states into law. The right to vote is now guaranteed to all citizens regardless of gender.

1948: The last state laws denying Native Americans the right to vote are overturned.

1957: The Civil Rights Act of 1957

1960: The Civil Rights Act of 1960

1964: The Civil Rights Act of 1964

1971: The 26th Amendment sets the national voting age to 18 and over.

1990: American Disabilities Act

1993: The National Voter Registration Act

Should I go on?? Or were you just 'baiting' me?
