Communism vs Capitalism: a simplified debate / analysis

Communism vs Capitalism: a simplified debate / analysis

At the outset let us all agree this topic is oversimplified for forum compatibility.

Some say for example that a genuine "communist" system has ever been implemented on a national scale.

None the less:
One of the criticisms of capitalism is that the poorest of residents in Cuba's Havana live better than the poorest of residents in New York City.

Clearly the most wealthy clearly have the advantage in NYC.

But this topic is about the poorest within both systems.

TOPIC QUESTION:
a) In our "capitalist" system would it be viable to make beans, a nutritious dietary staple, available to anyone that would ask for them?

Such system could have simplified administrative costs.
Beans are cheap when bought in bulk.
Such plan could virtually eliminate hunger in the U.S.

And apart from cheaters such as wealthy businessmen ordering truck-loads of beans as land-fill, we might lower our overall "welfare" costs, while ending hunger across the nation (& shut the commies up in the process).

b) Could implementing such system both reduce total welfare expenditures, and be socially / politically viable?

How much actual "hunger" is in the US?

If spent on nutritional food, how much can the poorest buy with food stamps?

The majority of people that "go hungry" in the states do so by "choice"

Hello gp, and thanks for reflecting on the topic issue.

So you are conceding that "hunger" is or was an issue; thus "food stamps".

And your reference to "food stamps" indicates there is already government charity from coast to coast to address the issue.

So the topic question is:
a) Could whatever residual hunger lingers despite "food stamps" (SNAP) possibly be reduced further by alternate government action.

b) If so, might that further reduction in hunger actually SAVE $money with improved administrative efficiency?

Feeding more people with $less $money?

Perhaps.

But every once in a while I'll read a story about school children whose one meal per day is the one they get at school.

Let's not fall for the "out of sight / out of mind" fallacy.

Just because you and I don't see them doesn't mean they aren't there.

And out of a population of over 300 million, there are likely to be some stories you and I have not heard.
Thanks from RNG

Do you have the date on which this quotation was allegedly made?
