The Lies about Pelosi on the Web

There have been consistent criticisms and lies on the web regarding Nancy Pelosi ever since the Dems took control of Congress two years ago. Fact-Check disproves many of them. Here's an email I received from it today:

Sliming Pelosi

January 14, 2009

Internet rumormongers spread misinformation about her husband, her tax plans, her plane rides and a "mental deficiency."

Summary

Pelosi has taken her place with Obama and Palin as a favorite target of false claims in chain e-mails, judging by the examples our readers send us.

Here's the truth about some of the bunk being thrown at her by anonymous Internet rumormongers:

  • Her husband does not own a $17 million stake in the parent of a company whose American Samoa plant she tried to exempt from minimum wage laws. That claim stems from a Wikipedia hoax.

  • She does not routinely fly about in a 757-size jet that she demanded from the Air Force. She normally flies on the same type of executive jet as her Republican predecessor.

  • It's untrue that she's calling for a 100 percent "windfall" profits tax on stock profits or retirement savings. That malicious hoax has been going around for at least two years but has recently been revived in a slightly different form.

  • And it's not true that she couldn't figure out that the voyage on which Captain Cook died was his last. That one the most recent example tries to pass off a joke lifted from a 48-year-old gag book as a true story about Pelosi.
The anti-Pelosi attacks increased after Democrats won a bigger majority in the House in last year's election. In earlier articles, we debunked waves of anonymous Internet misinformation about the Democratic presidential contender and the Republican vice presidential pick. Now, it is the speaker's turn.

4vr, who would you think is the most visible and talked-about person after the president? I have a feeling it would be the speaker of the house of representatives. After Reagan, Tip O'Neill was the most visible figure. George H.W. Bush was not. Most speakers of the house of representatives can be controversial, like Newt Gingrich.

In the incoming administration, there is no doubt that the second most spoken about person will be Hillary. The Speaker is third in line to be president in case the P and VP die. I am no big fan of Pelosi's, but neocons on so many blogs like this one crucify her for these lies, so I wanted to post the story.

I don't give her high marks so far, and thought that Obama might try to replace her. So I'm watching her closely, but hate the lies.

I think the only thing I can be proud of to the point is that Pelosi is from California. But I am cautious of her.

Aside from that, I guess Carter never had it easier with O'Neill, just as Sam Rayburn never had it easier with a young Lyndon Baines Johnson.

I crucify Pelosi for the simple fact that she want to repeal the Bush Tax Cuts. That has been her goal since she took over as leader of the house in 2006. She has stated constantly. No lie there. Sorry but I do not want nor do I desire to pay more in taxes. I am tired of working so that others can sit on their asses.

You must make a lot more money than the rest of us, if you are worried about the repeal of Bush's tax cuts for the rich.

Someone has to pay all the bills Bush left us.

I see no reason why the rich should be exempt.

Exactly, those cuts were for the top 2%. it is Obama that would cut your taxes most likely.

No I don't. However, I made the same amount of money the year after the tax cuts as I did the year before, and I saw a $1200 lower income tax burden after the tax cut, than I did before the tax cut. So I saved $1200 bucks, it might not seem a lot to some, but it was a lot to me.

How? If Pelosi and the Congress repeal the tax cuts, first my taxes are going to increase. It is that simple. Then if and when Obama finally gets around cutting taxes, then and only then will I get a tax cut.

I moved from the 28% bracket into the 25% bracket under the Bush Tax cuts, that is a savings to me of 3%.

So what happens when I move into the 31% tax bracket when the tax cuts are repealed. Quite simply I begin paying 6% more in taxes than I currently do. (Since the tax cuts, I have opened a small business, the money I make coupled with my salary from my other job would cause me to move into the higher tax bracket for the Middle Class)

You can talk all the shit you want about the tax cuts being for the rich, but this one simple fact remains true. Today, in this country the lower 50% of wage earners pay no taxes. If you pay zero in taxes, your taxes cannot be cut any lower. The top twenty percent of wage earners currently pay 85% of the tax bill in this country. That means the remaining 30% of us cover the other 15%.

Time and time again we hear about the so-called tax cuts for the rich, well news flash folks it is the rich that are paying the taxes. The poor certainly are not, in fact, under the Bush tax cuts, the Earned income Credit actually increased, meaning that not only did the poor not pay any income taxes to the government, but they also got more money back from the government. I guess you liberals continually forget that little tidbit, don't you.

I don't forget anything. And your taxes will go down under Obama, I guess you'll just have to wait and see on that one. And those who earn the most, should pay the most. And let's not forget the team of accountants that the rich have working for them, who find every loophole available to them, so that they aren't paying what they are supposed to anyway.
