Right. AND once again the RW is absolutely incapable of connecting the dots. Just like ACA the doofus party says 'start over'. For six years....start over.
The Dept of Ed is exactly the same thing. The Right cants and recants the horror of the Feds and the sanctity of the states...and yet have NO plan for the states--have NO plan for things like Pell Grants, census data, federal standards, infusion of federal money--no oversight with reference to civil rights laws, gender laws, equality between poor/rich districts.
AND then there are the state budgets, most of whom have cut education to the bone. HOW would the states manage to employ, oversee, regulate and finance an additional state department?? How would they deploy vouchers? How would they finance the free lunch programs? The Federal contribution to elementary and secondary education is about 8 percent, which includes funds not only from the Department of Education (ED) but also from other Federal agencies, such as the Department of Health and Human Services' Head Start program and the Department of Agriculture's School Lunch program. Where would those funds come from or should we just forget those and let children/families deal with it?
OR maybe the state residents will be delighted to see their property taxes double??
AND what about the disparity between the states on issues like highly qualified teachers? Economic inequality? Technology if there are no standards--no requirements. How about the gap between the rich and poor?
It is ridiculous to think that states like Louisiana and Mississippi can compete with states like Massachusetts or New York who spend three times the amount per pupil.
If indeed Trump is going to be the "JOBS" president, the last thing he will want to do is shut down the Dept of Ed and send 5000 people to the unemployment line.
Thanks from Daws77
