The OP says ambassador, not Trump.

I doubt that either is factual as the LA Time has already corrected the part about the ambassador.

President Trump inherited a military stretched thin, and undermanned, and under-equipped. Read about the likelihood of Trump recalling up to 1000 Air Force pilots, the condition of the Navy especially frigates, overused/overstretched Arleigh Burke Class destroyers, the need for new cruisers.

TDS on steroids. Trump had no requirement "to inform US citizens of the ambush".

US forces have been in Niger for 5 years.

I wonder if news producers and directors coach their news anchors to pronounce the correct name of the country of Niger so they do not make a mistake and say the n-word by accident which would ruin their careers.

But no such country exists.

Could the US leader have been referring to Namibia? Zambia? Or perhaps, The Gambia?

How about this ??? How about we STOP sending our troops ALL OVER THE WORLD ??? We have a HUGE military. We spend more on defense than the next the next nine countries combined, of which eight are considered allies.

How about we quit empire building ?? How about we quit using our military to protect corporate assets ?? Let's let the rest of world step up to the plate and handle some of this crap themselves.
Thanks from Sensible

Hatchet piece. Blames Obama for the REPUBLICANS pushing sequestration thru. Even states that military levels were below what Obama wanted. Also our military doesn't consider itself "prepared" if they aren't ready to fight TWO MAJOR WARS at the same time. We are more than capable of prosecuting a major conflict.

THE GOP doesn't have a current calendar but the rest of the world, including the U.S. military has moved into the 21st century. Obama's budget? Remember the budget that Obama never sent? Yes--that budget--is the budget where he requested a 7.8% increase in Defense. He didn't get it, but he got close.
Are there less troops? Yes. The number was cut (according to Politifact). In 2012, the Army had about 570,000 soldiers. Reductions over several years have taken it down to its current size of about 490,000. Did Obama make the cut? Doubtful. There are military officials that make that decision and present it to congress.
Are there less ships? You bet.....however, the ships of yesteryear were most definitely not the ships of today. They are now outfitted with far more advanced technology than they were during World War I. And today, the U.S. Navy has 11 aircraft carriers (plus the jets to launch from them), 31 amphibious ships, 14 submarines capable of launching nuclear ballistic missiles and four specialized submarines for launching cruise missiles — all categories of vessels that didn't even exist in previous wars.
The U.S. is building more vessels: 12 ballistic submarines, F-35s, and 100 bombers by 2020s. Nuclear warheads have been reduced but modernized.

So when someone says our military has been decimated?? Not so. Obama may have been a 'dove' but we are just as prepared for war as we were decades ago. We still have the strongest, largest arsenal in the world....and we're spending more than any time in history.
Thanks from RNG
