From the Barna link:

Quote:
When a self-identified Christian attends a religious service at least once a month and says their faith is very important in their life, Barna considers that person a “practicing Christian.” After applying this triangulation of affiliation, self-identification and practice, the numbers drop to around one in three U.S. adults (31%) who fall under this classification. Barna researchers argue this represents a more accurate picture of Christian faith in America, one that reflects the reality of a secularizing nation.
If you use Chrome, the find function will find it for you. I'm sure the other popular browsers have similar capabilities.

We had a very interesting sermon this morning. It was a strange mix: The Parable of the Talents, Martin Luther/Reformation AND.....drum roll please.....Fiddler on the Roof. ( I told you it was interesting!)

So our pastor starts with the parable: A master puts his servants in charge of his goods while he is away on a trip. To the first servant, he gives 5 coins. To the second servant he gives 2 coins and to the 3rd servant he gives 1 coin. Upon his return, the master assesses the stewardship of his servants. He evaluates them according to how faithful each was in making wise investments of his goods to obtain a profit.
The first two servants successfully doubled their coins, but the 3rd servant buried his coin in the ground because he feared risking the coin to an unwise investment. The master was delighted with the first two servants, but angry with the 3rd servant, who he cast out into darkness.
The next part of the sermon was about how our Lutheran friends (we are Methodist) are celebrating 500 years since the Reformation, sparked by Martin Luther. In 1510 Luther visited Rome and was shocked to find corruption and a lack of spirituality. He later described his visit: “Rome is a harlot . . . The Italians mocked us for being pious monks, for they hold Christians fools. They say six or seven masses in the time it takes me to say one, for they take money for it and I do not.”
After Luther earned his doctorate, he confronted the church for something called "indulgences"--the practice of good work or other specified acts of contrition. These indulgences could be bought. Luther was outraged and took a stand that nearly cost him his life, but instead brought about the split from the Catholic Church and took a good many Germans with him. Are you seeing a connection yet?
If you've seen Fiddler on the Roof you know the story of Tevye--a poor Russian Jew who has a wife and FIVE daughters. The theme of "TRADITIONS" runs through the story. Tevye proclaims that 'life is a precarious as a fiddler standing on a roof'. As each of his three oldest daughters feign Tevye's sacred traditions, he bends and bends until he breaks. His traditions and eventually his entire life are upended. As Tevye and his family leave the village for America, the fiddler begins to play.

Did everyone get the point of the sermon?? It has MUCH to do with this thread.
Thanks from imaginethat

The fact-free ignorance of Christianity expressed in this post is amazing and shows the level of anti-Christian bias from the hateful Left.
Thanks from webguy4 and discollector

Do you have any data, studies or even examples to justify your otherwise worthless opinion?

[B]The Great Apostasy

2 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ[a] had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,

Did you beat your kids when they misbehaved? Did you make sure when you beat the people who waited on you you didn't beat them so bad they died then or within a day or two?

You will now tell me that's from the NT, but still sounds an awful lot like OT crap.

Or are you calling us Judas-like?
