Jesus From a Shithole Country

Actually, Jesus was “worse” than that.

He came from a shithole town in a shithole country.

The modern nation of Israel may have global prominence today, but 1st century Judea and, more specifically, the region of Galilee where Jesus was from, was a Roman backwater, an afterthought in an empire that had little interest and saw little value in the dusty hills and plains of Judea.

Now, ancient Jerusalem did have a bit of culture and was significant enough to have a king (that Herod fella), but Jesus didn’t come from Jerusalem.

He was Jesus of Nazareth.

And as his apostle Phillip once so famously put it, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”

Nazareth was a hick town in a backwater country that no-one thought capable of producing anything or anyone of worth.

It was, in the words of Donald Trump, a shithole town.

And yet it was this shithole town in a shithole country that the Son of God called home. It was this shithole town in a shithole country that raised and formed the One around whom history turns.

Jesus came from a shithole and was thus able to explain (see Dives and Lazarus etc, etc, etc) where the billionaires would spend eternity. Pity the American fundamentalists who vote Trump can't, just like him, read!

It's interesting, if you read Tacitus, when the Romans proceeded to sack Jerusalem and massacre thousands of Jews in 70 AD--which incidentally Christ predicted would happen as recorded by Matthew in Chapter 24 of his account--the Roman commander Titus Flavius wrote to Emperor Vespasian, his father, that no one seemed to know where this vile race even came from. He suspected they may have originated on the island of Crete. The Jews were considered uncivilized barbarians incapable of being assimilated into Greco-Roman culture. A people that were basically in the way of what the Romans considered to be human progress.

Incidentally as well, the Herodian family that ruled in Palestine were not Jewish. They were Idumean, Hellenized Palestinians descended from the outcast family of Esau, and ancient enemies of Judea. The only reason Herod I was able to seize and maintain power was by pandering to Augustus when the Roman legions moved in. Herod's temple was nothing more than a consolation prize given to pacify the Jewish community and stave off a mass revolt akin to what had happened with the Maccabeans.

Thanks for starting the thread.

Sure and Jesus should have to go through the border legally.

Babylon razed the first Temple of Solomon to the ground and Rome razed the second Temple of Solomon to the ground. The second Temple of Solomon was where Jesus got upset and upturned the money lenders tables.

edit: Money lender is in the Bible but Jesus actually upturned money exchange tables. Lots of coinage was used from lots if different countries back then and money exchange tables ripped off the ignorant and undereducated.

Of course. You posted this because Trump wants to limit immigration from poor nations. We have been immigrating the world poverty into our country for decades. I certainly hope you had some motivation to your posting this bit of fluff.

I understand what Trump wants to do and if he wants to "LIMIT" immigration I have no problem with that if the limits are reasonable.

We have been admitting/processing the poor since before Ellis Island. Millions poured through that portal from 1892-1954. Were they wealthy?

But you seem to be missing the point. The sitting U.S. President made a vulgar, racist remark and I have the right to object to that remark....and so should you. Americans are historically from immigrant stock--from all over the world. That will never change and no one, including an American president, should be degrading and insulting our ancestry or the ancestry of those to come.
