The Trap of Lying for Donald Trump

You'll all be happy to know (well maybe not all of you) that Tom Cotton has changed his story. Let's walk it back. Maybe you recall the meeting with Trump that included Dicky Durbin, Tom Cotton, David Purdue, Lindsay Graham, Kevin McCarthy, Bob Goodlatte, and Mario Diaz-Balart. John Kelly was also there, as was Kirstjen Nielson, Homeland Security Secretary and one of the few women in Trump's cabinet.

Yes, now you remember THAT meeting--the meeting at the OK Corral where Durbin comes out with both guns blazing about Donald J Trump using the word "shithole" to describe Haiti. AND now you remember that Tom Cotton AND his Siamese twin David Purdue claimed they couldn't remember the president using that term or at least that was their first story. From there the twins decided to go with they heard ‘shithouse’ rather than ‘shithole,’ allowing them to deny the President’s comments on television over the weekend.

Then an even bolder lie as Cotton extricates himself from Purdue and says “I didn’t hear it, and I was sitting no further away from Donald Trump than Dick Durbin was." AND here's what happens when you get caught in a LIE--you LIE some more--and LIE some more---FOR SOMEONE ELSE. (You're gonna love this!)
Cotton says: “I did not hear derogatory comments about individuals or persons.” Perhaps there was another rationalization in there: he was being derogatory about whole populations, not individuals! (Sounds like DTT posters--dodgy at best) But we aren't done yet.

Perdue steps in. Perdue was busy on ABC’s “This Week,” telling George Stephanopoulos, in even more categorical terms, that Durbin was guilty of a “gross misrepresentation” of Trump’s remarks, saying that such “language” was simply not used. When Stephanopoulos noted that there were multiple sources who said otherwise—indeed, the President himself reportedly called friends to brag about what he had said—Perdue replied, “Multiple sources? ...Yes, Senator Perdue....MULTIPLE means more than ONE.

Enter Donald J Trump stage right, claiming how the accounts of his language were outright false. Indeed, he has said that they were proof that “Dicky Durbin” and other Democrats didn’t care about a deal on Dreamers, and were willing to blow up the negotiations by lying about him. Then, of course, Cotton needed to discredit Dick Durbin by calling him dishonest. For Trump? It was a bully’s triple play: first, he got to slur whole nations. Then he got his guys to gang up on anyone who called him out for it, which produced the final prize: the acknowledgment that the Republican lawmakers were his guys, subordinate and willing to humiliate themselves on his behalf.

So, Cotton and Perdue DID ACTUALLY RECALL, didn't they? AND as Trump's lies escalated, so did theirs, to the point where they were backing up the idea that the media was involved in a fake-news conspiracy, but of course that's the RW way. If all else fails, including the web of lies, claim fake news.

Thanks from Camelot

The epilogue:

Sen. Tom Cotton, discusses immigration on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.” (Photo: NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images)
Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., said that President Trump’s language during a closed-door meeting 10 days ago did not offend him, and that Trump’s actual words have been grossly misrepresented.

The Arkansas Republican offered this defense of the commander in chief while discussing immigration reform on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” with moderator Chuck Todd.

“I was not offended. And nobody in the meeting expressed their offense at any of the language that was being used,” he said on Sunday.
Cotton said he would not go over every single word from the controversial meeting, in which Trump reportedly denigrated Haiti and various African countries as “shitholes.” But he admitted that there was “some cursing behind closed doors,” as Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen had confirmed under oath.

Todd pressed Cotton on this point, asking him why he had changed his story, recalling that shortly after the Washington Post reported on Trump’s language, Cotton implied that it wasn’t accurate. At that time, Cotton also disputed the accounts of people like Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who disputed some of Trump’s arguments during the meeting, and Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., who spoke out against Trump after the meeting.

Unpersuaded, Todd accused Cotton of letting the American public believe that Durbin and Graham had misled the public completely and was only now giving any credence to what they said.

“I’ve never denied that there wasn’t strong language used in the meeting by lots of people,” Cotton replied. “I’m not a shrinking violet about these things. I’ve been in a command post overseas. I’ve heard some salty language before. What I am saying is, it was a gross misrepresentation.”

That is the only relevant part of all that nonsense....It was a private meeting ....tough talk goes on in those types of meeting...Durbin was totally wrong for talking out of school, and CNN and MSNBC played it to the hilt to keep attention away from the growing monster in those memos

Little Dickie Durbin and Chuck Todd are team players....and their job is to cover this massive turd up.....and they are losing......
