Gosh, where have you been.

I often wonder about this. Of course it is more complicated than merely having dirty fingernails. What I can't wrap my head around is the constant disparaging of people.
Making fun of the way rural/mountain people from the south talk, their lack of education, the way they live. Similar things have been said about city folks, rich, poor...
Wouldn't it be nice if we would trade places for ? one month per year, learn about each other, walk in each other's shoes?

I heard somewhere that stereotypes were useful once as a group defense mechanism. But in a plural society, it destroys and divides much more than it ever could defend different groups from their own countrymen who are currently seen as the enemy.

After looking over the article and your comments I have came to a conclusion. You and the Washington Post assume that all blue collar workers make shit wages. For years now its been noted that a technical education in trades is paying more than a career with a bachelors degree. Sounds like you and WAPO need to get out in to the real world some more. Of course assuming that all blue collar workers are white poor trash would align well with the bigotry from the Democrat party. Blue collar has to do with the type work you do, not the income from it.

HUH?? Perhaps you misread the piece??

"Among people who said they voted for Trump in the general election, 35 percent had household incomes under $50,000 per year (the figure was also 35 percent among non-Hispanic whites), almost exactly the percentage in NBC’s March 2016 survey. Trump’s voters weren’t overwhelmingly poor. In the general election, like the primary, about two thirds of Trump supporters came from the better-off half of the economy."

"During the general election, 69 percent of Trump voters in the election study didn’t have college degrees. Isn’t that evidence that the working class made up most of Trump’s base?

The truth is more complicated: many of the voters without college educations who supported Trump were relatively affluent."

I think I understand your point, but there is "wishful thinking" and reality. Parts of this nation are LITERALLY 3rd world. Appalachia encompasses over 200,00 square miles of land---all of West Virginia-- Kentucky, Tennesse, parts of Ohio, etc. These regions are rife with generational poverty. There are still parts of this region without running water or power. Isolated pockets in Central Appalachia have three times the national poverty rate, an epidemic of prescription drug abuse, the shortest life span in the nation, toothlessness, cancer and chronic depression. These are facts and NO ONE that I know of "makes fun" of these desperate people.

There's a book called "Hillbilly Elegy" by J.D. Vance which was on the best-seller list in 2016. It's Vance's memoir about growing up in the above mentioned areas. This was his life. It's heartbreaking but Vance overcame his hardships.
I highly recommend it....if you are a reader.

He is a hypocritical shit stain on this country who merely mirrors the other sides approved and widely acclaimed hypocritical shit stains. This is what we are stuck with now. It makes sense to me why my fellow conservatives stick by Trump. Do unto others as they do unto you. This is the only recourse were left with. What an unhealthy country we've become!

I seriously doubt if Trump has ever been in a bare knuckle fist fight. Mano y mano and one on one. I bet Hillary has been in a cat fight more than once. Cat fight aka hair pulling contest.
Thanks from imaginethat and Hollywood
