The Gray Lady Got Caught Again

First, a little background:

The White House Press Corps has jumped the shark and needs to be reined in. While I respect and admire Sarah Huckabee Sanders's work, and I enjoy her ability to spar with an increasingly hostile force, the daily briefings have become about the media agenda and not the White House's agenda.

Having a White House press credential is not a right; it is a privilege. The First Amendment prevents Congress from making any law ... abridging the freedom of speech, the freedom of the press. It does not grant license to media sycophants to drive their agenda in the people's house. For far too long, we've allowed the left free rein. It is time to take charge of the narrative and make it known that we will no longer tolerate the press obfuscating the news.

The White House Press Corps: Pull their credentials
By Earick Ward

Before then-President-elect Donald Trump’s moved into the White House his team said they could kick the press corps out of the building. Frankly, I was partial to the Old Executive Office Building when the story broke.

The plan reportedly under consideration involves kicking the media out of the White House press room, where reporters have worked for decades, into either the White House Conference Center or to the Old Executive Office Building, which is next door to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Sean Spicer, Trump's press secretary acknowledged that "there has been some discussion about how to do it” but insisted "there has been no decision.” He said the discussions were a question of inclusion rather than exclusion. "A question is: Is a room that has forty-nine seats adequate? When we had that press conference the other day, we had thousands of requests, and we capped it at four hundred,” Spicer said. “Is there an opportunity to potentially allow more members of the media to be part of this? That's something we're discussing.”

Trump Team Considers Kicking Press Corps Out of White House
By Daniel Politi

Trump team could kick press corps out of White House.
Not to fear. President Trump quickly canceled the eviction notice:

Before long the Russians threw shit in the game:

Sputnik, a Russian state-owned website accused of being an arm of Moscow’s international propaganda apparatus, is petitioning the White House for press accreditation.

Considered media’s political preference I am pretty sure our guys made room for the Russians.

This one beat the hell out of moving them next door:

…Maybe the best thing to do would be to cancel all future “press briefings” and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy???
Spicer bursts media's bubble with just a few choice words

Spicer bursts media?s bubble with just a few choice words
And here comes another load of the same old media horse manure:

The Times said in a statement that the action by the Justice Department “will endanger reporters’ ability to promise confidentiality to their sources and, ultimately, undermine the ability of a free press to shine a much needed light on government actions.”

Journalism advocacy groups have accused the government of overstepping the First Amendment in its targeting of journalists in leak investigations, a campaign that began during the Obama administration.

"All leak investigations — whether they directly target reporters or not — are a grave threat to press freedom. Whistleblowers are the lifeblood of reporting, and the Trump administration is directly attacking journalists’ rights by bringing these cases, " the Freedom of the Press Foundation said in a statement.

This is what I think about freedom of the press:

If Americans want to protect the First Amendment start by eliminating these four words ——“or of the press” —— so that it reads:

First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Notice that the press would still enjoy freedom of speech like the rest of us, but they would have to defend freedom of speech as a matter of self-interest instead of only defending a constitutional privilege while they feed the rest us to Socialist/Communist wolves.

A Lib Finally Gets It

No other factor is required to amend the First Amendment than a free press intentionally abusing a privilege by advancing democracy:

According to a New York Times spokeswoman: “Freedom of the press is a cornerstone of democracy, and communications between journalists and their sources demand protection.

In its 1972 decision in Branzburg v. Hayes, the Supreme Court held that, if subpoenaed, journalists have a legal obligation to testify, and specifically to answer questions relevant to a criminal investigation. Reporters often promise their sources confidentiality, but it is not a legally enforceable promise; the reporters are betting on the reluctance of the government to challenge the arrangement.
