It's going to be interesting how the Republican President's flunkies try to spin this one.

And this just KEEPS getting better. Get ready for it folks. We're about to get fucked at the gas pump. Just read an article from Money magazine speculating that we're about to see $80 a barrel oil. Without saying their names, they're basically saying China and India are growing faster than many people anticipate and that they will be driving up demand for oil.
Thanks from guy39

Well, the good thing is at that price America will start drilling new wells. That $30-40/bbl oil depressed the oil boom of a few years ago.

As an aside, the economies of China and India growing faster means CO2 levels will be rising more quickly.

Thats actually good news. 80 dollars a barrel is a good price point to create growth without slowing growth. The oil industry can sustain and hire at that level creating more jobs, yet at a price point that will not force an loss of jobs.

I read on the Axios AM newsletter that Florida was exempted because the move is very unpopular there and the Republican President wants to keep a Republican governor and Congresscritters.

If it costs 30 to $40 per barrel to break even on tarsands, fracking for shale oil and new offshore drilling, that tells me that the EROEI on these "tight" oil operations are too high to keep this shit going much longer!

A sensible, responsible civilization would have already started a major Marshall-type plan to transition away from car culture and move to highspeed and light rail systems like China is actually doing already. It seems the price per barrel that the economy can afford to grow with is declining/while the price at the pump is increasing because it's taking so much more energy to extract and refine this garbage....never mind the higher carbon outputs, water consumption and other related environmental damages. At some point it seems the only thing that saves the human race from self-destruction is when the wheels of capitalism fall off because of system failure, and a new system has to get on the path towards living with much, much lower carbon, environmental footprints as well as much much less resource consumption.

Of course, but as a side consideration, he doesn't want a drilling platform off the coast of his golf resort....rest of the country be damned!
