Sarah Palin blamed by the US Secret Service over death threats against Barack Obama

Sarah Palin's attacks on Barack Obama's patriotism provoked a spike in death threats against the future president, Secret Service agents revealed during the final weeks of the campaign.

The Republican vice presidential candidate attracted criticism for accusing Mr Obama of "palling around with terrorists", citing his association with the sixties radical William Ayers.

The attacks provoked a near lynch mob atmosphere at her rallies, with supporters yelling "terrorist" and "kill him" until the McCain campaign ordered her to tone down the rhetoric.

But it has now emerged that her demagogic tone may have unintentionally encouraged white supremacists to go even further.

The Secret Service warned the Obama family in mid October that they had seen a dramatic increase in the number of threats against the Democratic candidate, coinciding with Mrs Palin's attacks.

Michelle Obama, the future First Lady, was so upset that she turned to her friend and campaign adviser Valerie Jarrett and said: "Why would they try to make people hate us?"

The revelations, contained in a Newsweek history of the campaign, are likely to further damage Mrs Palin's credentials as a future presidential candidate. She is already a frontrunner, with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, to take on Mr Obama in four years time.

Details of the spike in threats to Mr Obama come as a report last week by security and intelligence analysts Stratfor, warned that he is a high risk target for racist gunmen. It concluded: "Two plots to assassinate Obama were broken up during the campaign season, and several more remain under investigation. We would expect federal authorities to uncover many more plots to attack the president that have been hatched by white supremacist ideologues."

Irate John McCain aides, who blame Mrs Palin for losing the election, claim Mrs Palin took it upon herself to question Mr Obama's patriotism, before the line of attack had been cleared by Mr McCain.

That claim is part of a campaign of targeted leaks designed to torpedo her ambitions, with claims that she did not know that Africawas a continent rather than a country.

The advisers have branded her a "diva" and a "whack job" and claimed that she did not know which other countries are in the North American Free Trade Area, (Canada and Mexico). They say she spent more than $150,000 on designer clothes, including $40,000 on her husband Todd and that she refused to prepare for the disastrous series of interviews with CBS's Katie Couric.

Oh yeah because Sarah said it, that is why it happened. It has nothing to do with the fact that racists will attack Obama simply because of the fact that he is black and running for President, and now is President-elect.

Where is the Telegraph headline about the sexist in the Democrat camp who launched attacks on Sarah. Hell half of the Liberal blogs are filled with such hatred toward this woman it is ridiculous, the election is over and yet they still attack. Damn how scared are they of this woman?

So it had nothing to do at all, in your mind, with Palin's hateful and false rhetoric during her campaign? ("Obama pals around with terrorists," "Obama is different from 'real' Americans?")

How about when Palin refused to silence idiots at her rallies screaming "Off with his head!" "Terrorist!" and "Obama's an Arab?" She just let that shit continue without speaking out.

I wouldn't say she was solely responsible for the vitriol and death threats, but she certainly added fuel to the fire.

What "sexist?" Most people I know on the left dislike Palin because she's clueless, not because she's female.

Granted the lefty blogosphere did come a bit unhinged regarding Palin, but I can certainly understand why. Her selection was a grotesque insult to women and to the intelligence of people "on the fence" as a whole. Tell me with a straight face McCain would have selected Palin if she looked like, say, Janet Reno. She was a political publicity stunt - one that failed miserably. John McCain should be ashamed of the depths he sunk to in this campaign.

Scared? Hardly. More like insulted that this wingnut bimbo would be chosen as a viable candidate over several far more deserving and more qualified Republican women.

Bill Ayers like it or not is and was a terrorist. Obama is associated with him having served on two separate Board of Directors with him and having had Ayers host a party for his kick-off to state politics. The statement is true. Because racists have used it as fuel to their own pitiful existence is not Sarah Palin's fault, nor is it the fault of her supporters who are not racist.

Oh so statements like her only qualification is that she has not had an abortion is not sexist. Or what about how can she possibly do the job of Vice President and raise her 5 children. No one asked how can Obama be President and still be a good father to his two daughters. Yes they are sexist.

Yes her selection scares the hell out of them. She is the modern day feminist. She is succeeding in a man's world, she is a wife and a mother of five children. All the feminazi's on the left arguments about have to choose between family and career is now shown to be nothing but false. She is a successful governor and a successful mother and happily married to her high school sweetheart. She has shown that a woman can be just as good as a man, and raise a family all at the same time, no wonder folks like Maureen Dowd hate her so much.

Sarah got the raw end of the deal in the McCain campaign, they put a leash on her and public appearances. I will be the first to admit that she might not know everything, however, just because she doesn't know something does not mean she cannot learn about it.

In her two years as governor she has increased state revenue by increasing the taxes on oil companies, a move that was unpopular with the companies and legislature but highly popular with the people. She has also passed legislation allowing for Alaska to provide natural gas to the lower 48, starting the state on a 10 legacy of building a new pipeline that will help to increase employment within the state for construction as well as providing new jobs in the natural gas industry, again something unpopular with the oil companies and the legislature but extremely popular with the people.

She has also taken back leases from the oil companies on lands that they have refused to drill. And is now offering them to other companies that have the desire to drill. Again this was unpopular with big three oil companies but extremely popular with the people. The more oil that is produced the more money we will recieve in our dividend checks.

Despite all the complaints regarding travel expenses, she has reduced the cost of the Governor's expenses by 75% from the previous governor. Murkowski's last year in office cost the state $640,600 in travel for he and his wife. Governor Palin's first two years in office have cost the state $160,700. She sold the private plane the people did not want.

These are just a few of the things that she has been able to accomplish while in office. She has also passed ethics reform laws, and despite all the criticism about her own actions, she has been the first one to submit herself to the scrutiny of the Personnel Board on some of her own actions seeking their guidance to whether or not she is in compliance. Thus far, the Board has found that she has been in compliance.

Futhermore, after raising revenues from the oil companies, against the wishes of the legislature she took a portion of the money and gave it back to the people in the form of a $1200 energy rebate included with our dividend checks.

When it comes to energy, Sarah knows what she is doing and is pushing for the development of new technologies in Alaska. She is interested in wind and wave power and is hoping to attract some of that business to Alaska as well.

Yes the liberal are afraid of Sarah, she is popular with the people, and when she is allowed to get her own message out there over the shrill attacks, she will be hard to stop. And that is why, even though the election is over and she lost, the attacks continue. The folks out there know that right now Sarah is the number one contender for the Republican nominee in 2012.

Sarge, Bill Ayers was personally asked to be on the board by William Annenberg, conservative Republican and ambassador under Ronald Reagan (also a close personal friend of RR's).

Shall we accuse Annenberg and Reagan of 'palling around with terrorists'?

Also, serving on a board and having one dinner hosted can hardly be considered 'palling around with'. So, your conclusion that what she said was true is wrong. It was a lie, intended to mislead. It was not approved by the McCain campaign, and it was halted by them because of the simple untruthfulness of it.

Barack Obama launched his career at a Ramada Hotel in Hyde Park, not Bill Ayers' house. The statement is false.

McCain misleading public in role Ayers played in Obama political career - Lynn Sweet

Did you bother to read the article, or only the headline???

Sam Ackerman told me Tuesday when we exchanged e-mails that "as I recall, the event at Bill Ayers' house (prior to ours) was a fund-raiser for Alice's congressional campaign at which she also introduced Barack as the successor she would like to see elected."

Introduced as her successor. Wow, tell me if that is not launching his career than what the hell is it???

Despite the articles contention that he piggybacked, the writer betrayed herself by making this statement and her contention that the point is moot, shows how little she herself reads what she writes. Words have meaning, and obviously the writer forget this simple truth.

Really, if that is the case why is it that in the papers regarding the CAC stored in the Univ of Illinois - Chicago is Bill Ayers credited with organizing the Chicago School Reform Collaborative, and then preparing the original application for the $49.2 m Annenberg Challenge grant. If Annenberg asked him to be on the board why would he need to do this???? BTW similiar paperwork shows that Ayers was the founder of the CAC, again, why would he have to find something if he was asked to be on the board?

Lying and trying to shift blame, you would work well in the Obama adminstration. Now what about my conclusion again???

BTW Obama was appointed as President of the Board by who????? AYERS.

Wow all this from someone from the neighborhood. But then again this is Chicago. The mobspeak must come easy.

Damn that paperwork can be a killer can it not???
