Why exclude managers? wouldn't "the work" include coordinating the workers and hiring and firing and all the other things managers do? And what about investors? If a company needs 20,000 dollars to expand, and they do not have the collateral to get a bank loan, but investors believe in the company enough to invest, then shouldn't the investors receive some of the profits?

When you eliminate all the companies by doing this, who are the people going to work for? Where will they buy food?

All kidding aside, if you have anything to bring to the table or is actually capable or in any position to negotiate a salary, you are not flipping burgers. Your example does not apply to people that actually are working shit jobs.
C'mon man, it took me 17 years to make it to Associate Manager of French Fries.

Most of us have had a share of shit jobs.....that is what we call a motivator, to take charge of your path in life when young.

Poor choices in life have consequence.

When I didn't like a manager, I ignored what he said and performed less than nominal. Another bad manager in the unemployment line never to have a job in that industry again because he got black listed by word of mouth.

You and I kinda took the same path, I work for a defense contractor on government installations after my Army retirement and if I remember right you had a business as a contractor for government.

Do any jobs for the Corp of Engineers?
Thanks from Twisted Sister

Fair pay and choice.
Employer would not hire you unless you were "bringing something to the table" he/she pays you on the basis of how highly he/she values what you do or on how badly it is needed.
That being said a minimum wage is still needed in a decent society.
Also an employer almost NEVER negotiate with an employee unless they have to. They much prefer to be in a position to dictate terms, as in I will pay you X, take it or walk.
Thanks from Toefoot

If this is your case you sold yourself short depending what field you are in. My salary is directly connected to what I bring in and common place to negotiate.

In short, I am estimator that seeks and wins short term/ long term contracts be it MATOC/IDIQ/SABER/Corp of Engineers and the private market.

I have also walked away from jobs and give them a polite "No thank you". It is a small world and burning bridges can come back and bite you.
Thanks from Sabcat

It is a long row to hoe. My first job after getting out of the Navy was working for Defense Sub-Contractor and even had projects in the Pentagon. Fast forward twenty years and I was a Defense Contractor. You can't keep a good man down who has strength and determination.

edit: I never bid on a project for the Army Corps of Engineers because that was above my level of competence but had a contract at Anniston Army Depot where I showed their Computer Engineers how to do it. The General was impressed and wanted me to be a member of their computer team. Main Frame General Purpose Digital Computer and much deeper than putting the right plug in the left hole but that is what I did and a little more but signed a not to compete paper when I hired on to Electronics Automation Corporation.
