Race relations, entertainment and the progressive influence.

In 2003 Chappell's show came out and was one of the top comedy shows on TV for its running. The open and dark approach to race relations in the states was nothing new. Good times, The Jeffersons and All in the Family to name a few in a long line of dark comedies to capitalize on the subject. Fast forward to today where we have trigger warnings before classes be them rape law in college or reading Tom Sawyer in jr/Sr. High. Comedians refuse to play anywhere near a college campus. Our society has taken great steps backwards in relating to one and other. What happened. The one constant during that decline was the POTUS. Now I don't know how this can be blamed on that but I do recall that part of his campaign was to improve this area of our nation. IMO this was not what happened.

I really did not expect Mr Obama to bring the Nation together but in my opinion he did gain political capital with division, within his ranks.

I don't know where you are living Sabcat.

I live in a small city of 800,000+, which include five large universities and several small colleges (one of those universities being Yale).

There are comics in the student affairs buildings every weekend ... I will say that the trend seems to be towards female comics rights now - but that's certainly not negating the large numbers of comedians of color who appear weekly. And race is always a large part of their repertoire.

I think a more apropos observance would be that comedians, in general, are no longer as popular as they were twenty-five years ago. Other than late night talk show hosts, I bet over half the country can't name ten A-List comics.

Across the United States, high-profile comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, Larry the Cable Guy and Chris Rock have said they are avoiding campuses because of student hypersensitivity. “I don’t play colleges, but I hear a lot of people tell me, ‘They’re so PC,'” Seinfeld famously told ESPN’s Colin Cowherd in June. “[Young people] just want to use these words: ‘That’s racist;’ ‘That’s sexist;’ ‘That’s prejudice.’ … They don’t know what the hell they’re talking about.”
