You are not paying 50% tax on your income.

Good idea kid.
Let's close the bases WE have in those places and then we can enjoy the same life-style as the Danes.
There MAY be hope for you yet.

First one lie to correct. Denmark's maximum tax rate is 60.2%, and that is only on income over some level. But they also have the most comprehensive safety net I'm aware of.

But why is it that the entire developed world other than the US can achieve effectively single payer medical systems of various kinds when their maximum tax rates are at or below 50%?

And they all use a marginal tax rate system.

OECD Tax Database - OECD
It's been hashed out time and again. In Vermont and California when they were considering single payer. The national numbers are easy to cipher and are consistent with what Vermont and California came up with.

Health care spending in the US is $3 trillion with government picking up $1 trillion currently. So we would need $2 trillion in additional taxes to cover it all.

Payroll taxes raise $1 trillion and are 15% on your gross income.

We would need an additional 30% payroll tax to fund a single payer system.

You are overlooking the other taxes and in Denmark.

A new car in Denmark has something like 150% tax

And here in the states once you add together all of the taxes that we pay we are easily one of the highest.

I agree w/ what many people are saying. Stop playing world police and shut down all of the international military camps and I wouldn't bitch about healthcare.

We cannot afford it now. Get the ducks in a row. There is enough cash flow as it is. We could cut taxes dramaticlly and give healthcare back to the states and it is something that could easily happen.

What many people are opposed to is handing this over to the bloated federal government. The federal government is incapable of managing something so personal for 300 plus million humans.

People keep trying to compare the states to all of these other nations. A better comparison would be for the EU to manage the healthcare for all involved.

Sure Denmark can make this work (for now) they have a population of around 5mil and are a primarily homogenous nation.

How do you figure that?
Health Care costs 3.3 trillion now, and the government already pays over half of that.
So add 1.6 trillion to taxes and you could make medical care "free".

And if you went to a National Health System the savings would cover most of that.

The federal government doesn't pay over half, it's closer to a third. You will need $2 trillion in new taxes for single payer.

A national health system where health care is dished out like public education would save a lot.
