ETOH and THC are created from the processing of plants.

One is processed by fermentation the other is created by the process of burning.

At the same time, the body begins to metabolize the THC. Metabolized THC is inactive. It doesn't get you high. The inactive forms, the THC metabolites, peak later within ~2 hrs if inhaled and 3-4 hours if ingested.
