Ohio State course reprimands white heterosexual masculinity

Quote:

A class taught this spring at Ohio State University will review a parade of reasons why white heterosexual masculinity is allegedly problematic, tackling the topic from the constructs of racial issues, bullying, pop culture, societal expectations and much more, according to its syllabus.

The course, “Be a Man! Masculinities, Race and Nation,” includes a variety of readings to that end, including its required textbook “Dude, You’re a Fag!” by C.J. Pascoe, which analyzes masculinity as not only a gendered process, but sexual one, its Amazon description states.

Even though it is the same institution, depending on one's department/area of study, you could be Galaxies apart. I see a lot of this as I major in both STEM & Humanities (although History is considered a "Social Science" now (yeah, right--everything is a "Science" I suppose)). History is still very far away (superior) to what happens in some other Departments such as English Lit., Gender Studies, some of the Philosophy courses can be quite ridiculous (depending upon the Professor--Philosophy training itself can be highly useful though, so I don't want to bash this too much), ect.

Yeah, i find it important to point these things out as i believe that many of the members here are in denial as to how far down the rabbit hole of postmodernism the liberal arts wing of our major universities have gone.

I saw the other day a class on deep throating. Shameful. IMO

I can tell you that "Feminism" classes are commonplace. I know there are classes concerning "Human Sexuality" although I'm not sure what the curriculum is like (it could conceivably be highly constructive or shameful/disgraceful--depending on what is being taught, I have never taken such a course).

Also, not at my University, but at another College I'm familiar with (a smaller school) they were teaching courses in the Physics Department about "Theology & Physics" or "Physics & Religion". There is no shortage of issues that need addressing..

The "Education" system is being vitiated by the worst elements of both the Left & Right (perhaps not the "worst" elements of the Right actually, but Religious Dogmatism is a serious issue and intellectually stifling to an extreme) in these ways (amongst others). If a person is savvy enough, then their real Education/learning should come independently (outside the context of the formal system) or else there is a strong fear of internalizing the messages and constraints put forth by the Colleges/High School/ect. ect. One problem with this is, however, that it requires a person to be quite savvy indeed, and be able to find the "needles in a haystack" so-to-speak.

Now, speaking personally (from my perspective, at least), I am generally able to do such with reasonable success in the Humanities (as they are mostly not intensely complicated), however for rigorous topics such as Neuroscience, Physics, ect. ect. I find it to be very much more difficult (without guidance/direction). That is, sure, I can take Free courses online through MITOpenCourseware, MOOC's, read Textbooks, ect. and have some reasonable success with solving problems in certain areas with intensive study, however there is a world of difference between solving an equation (computationally) & understanding what it actually means (which is much deeper and requires a much higher level of insight/understanding). For a person such as myself, with limited skill set/talent in such areas, the University system actually proves very useful in this regard. However, to a truly talented & savvy individual in such areas, the University system would just be holding them back tremendously in a similar way to if I or you had to go through the highly unpleasant experience of taking a Gender Studies course for a Grade and doing the corresponding assignments, or some bullsh't interpretation of History course, ect. ect. In fact, Einstein often complained about this exact point (which is found in his popular books; essay/speech compilations).

I find it difficult to believe to that there was a class on deep throating.

Perhaps an afternoon workshop.

But it's hardly a technique that requires a 3 1/2 month class to master. I mean, really. Is was this a class for the mentally challenged?
