Feinstein loses California Democratic Party’s endorsement

Quote:

California Democrats rebuked Sen. Dianne Feinstein at their annual convention this weekend, denying her the party’s endorsement in this year’s Senate race and giving a majority of their votes to her liberal primary challenger.

Just 37 percent of delegates to the statewide convention, held this year in San Diego, backed Feinstein in her bid for a fifth full term. More than 54 percent backed state Senate leader Kevin de León, who entered the race in October and has run to Feinstein’s left on health care, taxes and immigration. Candidates needed 60 percent of the vote to win the party’s endorsement, making Feinstein the first incumbent senator in recent memory who will run in June’s primary without official backing.

I can't say I'm very impressed with de Leon, though.

They interviewed him on CNN yesterday and he's got about as much personality as a potted palm.

So the party didnt endorse either candidate then? Either way it doesnt matter. In tough races like that it is more important to be sure your opponent wont get endorsed. And even if they do, it wont keep her from running if she wants to.

How can anyone really be any more liberal than Diane Feinstein? I cannot see how anyone can really be left politically of her, unless they are radically left. San Francisco where she is from and had her career is far and away the most left wing city in the nation, a city so left it makes New York look conservative.

What has she done to make the party faithful mad at her?

I have mentioned this before, but there is something about being a US Senator to where people want to do the job until they die. Ms. Feinstien will be 85 years old this summer, and she wants another six year term? Why? My dad says people become Senators and stay u til the die because of the money. I guess I can see that, but how much more money do you need? Mitt Romney is 70 and wants to be a Senator? Mitt and Feinstien are again, already wealthy (and Mitt is super ass rich). Looking at you too McCain, who is over 80, has brain cancer, and doesn't need the money or the hassle. There is something fun about being a Senator. Maybe it's Taco Tuesdays in the Congressional Dining Hall.

My dad is 85 now and likes to work, and be active, but uh, guess what, he's fking 85 and now has the sleep schedule of a child. Wake up, do whatever, afternoon nap. Eat dinner, watch FOX (sort of like cartoons) loudly, in bed by 9:30. How can someone of that age do a job like being a Senator justice? Just asking, and although I don't think Senators do that much, it is a JOB, where you have to suit up and show up, kiss ass, shake hands, have meetings, fundraise for your party, events.

Diane, Mitt, McCain and other oldsters need to retire, enjoy the grandchildren, and sleep in front of the TV.

I couldn't agree more. Ontop of term limits i feel we need to have some way of accessing their physical and mental capabilities. I mean do we really want people making critical decisions regarding our nation and our lives who were born before electricity? Shit, i know some people in their 80s and 90s who get tricked constantly by emails. The world is a very, very different place today. There is no way that they can comprehend what is going on.

I also feel that we need to make old people re take their dirving tests at least bi-yearly. They are wicked scary on the road.
