Of course, I wouldn't mind going with a Veteran's Affairs model for national healthcare. Everyone seems to want to bag on the VA when they make mistakes but forget that the VA successfully treats more veterans than they screw up.

I think the news only trots out the mistakes the VA makes so they can keep people afraid of socialized healthcare. The VA is the best example of socialized healthcare we have in the U.S.

It's not as though the parents are members of some religion that's opposed to the use of modern medical technology and are trying to prevent their child from receiving treatment for something that can be cured or treated; at least in that case it's understandable for the state to want to intervene.
I agree with this.

The entity paying the bill need only decline to pay for the treatment, that's their choice, but to use the power of the state to forbid a treatment from taking place is tyrannical.

Why should these persons be allowed to condemn any child to a slow and pointless death? We take children from abusers - you think they have the right to get on with it? Our doctors, not being Americans, probably have a notion of the Hippocratic oath.

We do here in the US.
We put Christian Scientists in jail for refusing treatments for their sick children, choosing to pray for them instead as an alternative .

We demand that treatments be efficacious, and rely on doctors to decide whether a treatment is efficacious or not.

The doctors in this case have decided that there is no cure, and that subjecting the patient to quackery in another country would only increase the suffering of the patient.
This isn't "the state" making the decision, its medical science.

Science isn't the end all be all. Science does not lead to moral decision making, only convenient decision making.

Have you extremists liberal death cultists already forgotten that the science of Eugenics was used to forcibly sterilize thousands in the U.S., Germany, and other nations in the years prior to WW2.

Perhaps you love the idea of the state killing kids, since it falls in line with another extremists liberal's ideology.....

Thanks from Peter the Roman

The heading of this thread is weird in the extreme. Do the forcedbirthers really suppose May and Co. have a cabinet meeting to put the doctors right against all their life-experience and knowledge. That is to mix health up with the judicial system!

Strawman - it's not the doctors who are pulling a gun out of their medical bags and brandishing it to the parents, while saying "if you try to take your kid out of this hospital I'll pop a cap in your ass!" The socialist medicine state is probably putting a gun to the doctors' heads telling them what they can & can't do, just as much as it's putting a gun to the parents' heads telling them what they can & can't do. But thank you for putting a spotlight on the healthcare providers and bureaucrats of socialized medicine; now people are aware that there's something there that needs to be explored regarding who exactly is making & imposing specifically what decisions.

The hospital asked the courts to step in as they do if say for instance parents refuse to allow a life saving procedure like a blood transfusion. Or in the case of a down syndrome raped by her brother, one parent wanted the child to have an abortion the other did not.
The child has a very rare type of dementia, there is no cure only palliative care.
This is all Italy has offered, to transport him he needs a number of invasive and painful procedures.

This child has been alive for nearly two days now without life support. Paul, you say that it's for profit, but the reason why this child is not being allowed to leave for treatment is because this hospital, and every hospital, is run by the British Government. What gives the Government to decide who lives, and who dies?

Can I bring up the Crusades? They are equally relevant as the above post.
