I know. The goddamn patriarchy.

From my understanding Amazon is going to fire all of the male employees and hire women to utilize that 81/100 to offset the $.14 charge that Seattle is going to place on their employees. This move should net them millions if not billions in positive cash flow. I predict that if it is successful we are going to see a surge of unemployed men nation wide as more companies catch on to this 81/100 secret.

Good thing that gender is fluid as many of these unemployed men will have to start identifying as women and just eat the 19% pay cut to stay employed. Because current year.

Gender pay gap there is no gap except in Government jobs.

Remember Obama only paid his women staff ~3/5 what he paid his male staff

Same for Hillary..

https://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/08/u...-scrutiny.html

The Obama 3/5 compromise

in the private sector why women earn less (not paid less/hour) is because they miss work ~28% more often than men.

SIGH! TN, I'm sure you are a very nice man. Sounds like you have lovely, well-educated daughters. AND good for you but..........you MAKE ME CRAZY.

Did you even bother to READ the NY Times piece?? Because if you did you would have read this: “Women still tend to have lower pay grades than men do, because the men, on average, have more years of experience.”

Do I need to explain this to you? The government, like public schools, libraries, national parks, bean counters, WH staff....have something called PAY SCALES. We get paid by a prescribed set of qualifications. Example: Entry level (1st yr) with BA degree: $X no of dollars. 2nd year BA: $X no of dollars. With advanced experience and education the amount increases but it is the SAME amount for men and women. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?? THERE is NO PAY GAP IN GOVERNMENT JOBS because of the ..... what?
PAY SCALES. Good boy!

Parents are not REQUIRED to pay for their child's higher education but the parents I KNOW usually paid or subsidized the kid's education. Here was our deal with our boys: Stay in COLLEGE for 4 years straight and WE PAY. Drop out and YOU PAY if you decide to return to school--which they both decided to do. Nevertheless, we helped, but it was harder--much harder because they had to hold down part-time or full-time jobs to finish. Thank goodness they finished. We have a grandson who is only 3 yrs old, but we started a college fund for him when he was born. So did his parents and so did the other grandparents. Our DIL has a doctorate degree with NO student loan debt due to scholarships and a college fund started by HER parents and grandparents.

YEP. The patriarchy sucks--always has--but, OH happy day! It's changing.

Maybe YOUR daughters won't have to deal with the male egos, the sexual perversion, the lower pay grade, the smoke-filled back rooms, and the garden-variety arrogance.

Here's a little story for you. True story. It happened to me.
I was out of public teaching for a while--worked for a huge music warehouse/retail business WITH a music school. My title was Director of Education for a department of 20-25 employees and hundreds of students.
I found out that my counterpart (director of another department and a MAN) was making $10,000 more than ME. So I made an appointment with the owner and laid out my case. I asked WHY and stated that all managers deserved equal pay.
Here's what he said to me in a truly SHOCKED voice: "I can't possibly pay YOU the same as John. John's got a family to raise and he's the breadwinner."
I quit ONE MONTH later.

You can bet your sweet ASS there's a patriarchy out there in BUSINESS LAND.
Thanks from RNG and Lyzza

Gender Gap in the private sector is ~6-8 cents/dollar

Gender Pay Gap Myths: Clearing up Equal Pay Day misconceptions | Fortune

Drawing on a sample of 420,000 interview requests and job offers among 10,000 participating companies and about 98,000 job candidates, Hired found that within the first two years of working in a tech role, women ask for and receive 98% of what men in the same job at the same company are paid. Compare that to women with seven to 10 years of experience, who are offered, on average, 93% of what men are offered. Women with 13 to 14 years of experience receive 92% of what their male counterparts are paid for the same job.

You are unaware that what you described had nothing to do with patriarchy right? This is what you just described

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs

Congratulations, you just railed against Socialism and had no clue that you just did.
Its a start

There are two kinds of Tech, Low Tech and High Tech. I am not disparaging Low Tech but the Big Money is in High Tech. I did not invent digital subtraction but was military UNIVAC 1219 which is not an adder but a subractor. Invert and subtract made it an adder in the broadest sense of the word.

Yes there is Hi tech, low tech and women are paid ~6-8 cents a dollar less than men, across the board. There is a slight gender gap,But that can be due to:

many women take a break from their jobs to raise children (they choose to do so)
They call out of work with illnesses more often.
Many choose to be the 2nd income for the family so they work part time are PRN status jobs.

I am in a High tech field that is dominated by women.. the pay is based on experience education and job responsibility

I receive extra pay for Critical Care, Working 13 hour shifts that cover night and evenings I make more for both of those, I also earn above the base pay because I manage the laboratory information system and supervise the microbiology department. Also 44 years of experience in my field has built my income for experience.

Women where I work are paid the same with the similar duties and management responsibilities.
