Email Evangelizing ?

I have been getting a number of emails lately that are sent by a particular man. And I guess he is a pastor. Or at least he has some kind of ministry.

And I guess he feels I need to be ministered to. The thing is that he is sending these out to loads of folks and then many will hit the "reply to all" prompt. And I get to read their responses to this man too.

I did initially ignore it all and then I wrote to say, "Hey this is like joining some email group involuntarily" ...although I said it in a sweeter way than that.

All the same, as I went on to inquire about it, one man wrote me back and said that this man has harvested names from internet sites. Now I will be honest here. I have written quite a number of posts at the Internet Infidel Discussion Board and also at a blog that a man has about the history of atheism. I did not write there as an atheist. I wrote as one who was on the proverbial "slippery slope" and my faith was fastly taking on a paradigm shift.

I loved the clarity of thought expressed in those two places and made some friends with true integrity and not because they were grooming me to take up their philosophies, just willing to hear me without judging me for having doubts and questions about God, about mankind's purpose, about the universe.

So anyhow, I guess it is likely that this man that is sending emails got my name and email address somehow through those internet associations, but then again, none of the names on the mass mailing are of folks I know from those places.

I did do a mail message prompt a few weeks ago to have his emails deleted from the server, but now he must have given himself a new email address, cos I just got one again.

Now I am not writing to complain really. But I am wondering if any here have ever gotten unsolicited emails from evangelical groups or individuals.

I will say that I have a long song and dance story that is to me more than a good reason to never return to fundamentalism. And I find it really presumptuous for someone to warn me of hell.

So now I did write and asked him why he sends these emails to me and he wrote to say that if I am not an atheist, he is mistaken, but if I am, he wants to help me not wind up in hell.

So is this a new trend of "evangelizing" on the internet? I would think it would be restricted somehow...

Are there not laws against spam? Send an email to the abuse account at this preacher's domain to complain. Include a copy of the spam.

I've never heard of this before, but it is not at all surprising... In fact I'd bet that at some point he will ask you for money.

The way I see it, you can handle it in one of three ways...

1) Mark him as spam every time you get a message from him, no matter what address he sends from.

2) Write to him and ask him to please take you off his list. The problem with responding to a Spammer like this is that when you respond they now know they have a real address, and they send you more spam...

3) Respond to him with something so foul and vile he'll never want to hear from you again...

Well I am not sure what the first message today was, cos my Outlook removed an unsafe attachment.

And I did write and ask him why he thinks I am an atheist anyhow.

And he wrote back...

Quote:

If your not a Atheist than I am mistaken.

But if you are, than you need help from eternal Hell my friend! Why? Because I love ya! Haven't met ya, but love ya!

I can prove to you without a doubt that there is a God plain and simple if you like!

One all Atheist know, your going to die one day.

The ? is, where are you going to go and do you care!

Because it's not over after you leave your body my friend!

I don't know what has happened in your life, maybe you would like to tell me, maybe not, but God is real and HE loves you and wants you to believe that He is.

For I am just a witness, God will be the Judge! John 3:16

Love

Elder/ Teacher Dominick

So here I am sharing his message. I really do not ascribe to his thinking at all. I just hope he doesn't send me a virus if I don't "get saved" ...

Yeah, don't open mail if you don't recognize the sender. Mark it as spam and delete it. Sometimes opening it sets off a virus.

Well I don't think I have a virus now cos I have a really cool antivirus program that RHS told me about.

But I was just saying, you know how if folk don't believe then all the plagues come, the tsunamis and the hurricanes and the famines and the diseases. I maybe should not joke about this email.

And maybe the man is sincere. But he is brazen to harvest email addresses at sites he deems have hellbound folk at them.
