Amazing Electric Power from Candles!

Can anybody fathom to guess how this is possible?

Its all bullshit. You cannot magnetize a nail the way they demonstrated. You would have to rub it many times in the same direction. The current flow is too steady and the light did not turn on and off in sync with the blowing out of the candle (among the many other flaws).

I wonder how many dimwits tried this?

No it's really true. It's caused by what is called the Poissant effect. When both candles are lit, the energy created by the flames emit an electrical field that couples with the magnetism induced in the nails. Such an effect causes direct current to flow and, hence, lighting the bulb. This was first discovered by a lowly street sweeper in London circa 1846.

I read snopes, homie and I had to learn about the Poissant Effect in physics (a class I hated).

Here's a better test of candles for power since I bet you already tried this spoof and it don't work... try this one Detector Radio Receiver Edison Flame RF Signal Candle Rectifier Space Charge Set

I have never seen the idea in the above link but I have heard of the Russians using a diode placed directly over a candle as a power source for a small AM-FM radio... the principal of the diode over a candle is the exact same theory for a solar panel... the electrons get all excited and travel to the negative pole so if you put a small demand for energy in the loop it will power it.

I've also read that you can string a half mile of copper cable and use the static electricity that build up on the insulation to spike charge a battery... Ham radio dudes have to dump the static charge the same way a guy getting ready to fuel an aircraft does or it will cause an electrical shock and explosion of the fuel. The electric shock can be transmitted regularly to a battery to be used as a small power source.

Leigh, the real truth of the matter is that it is all a hoax. Yes, it is total bullshit. There is no possible way that could work. There are other videos on yutube that debunk this.

I have my ditzy moments, but I would never be dumb enough to go through what obviously was a b.s. demonstration.

How about no batteries required? Chapter 4: Radio
