There is a tide in the affairs of men

Yep, we should have built the supercollider - which was scheduled for TX, as I recall.

Instead, pleading bad budgets to come, we ceded 1st place in high-energy particle research to CERN. Ah, well, English is one of the European languages. So we'll get some trickle-down, I'm sure.

Pity, though, we - & our scientific Janissaries left over from WWII & the Fascist/Nazi adventures in the World - used to sweep the Nobel's & all the physics, math, prizes. & so it goes ...

Corporate America owns our government now. As long as that continues, great things are no longer possible.

And all we've got from the LHC is a Nobel prize for a failure of logic.

Two things LHC was asked to confirm:

1. The inflationary model of BBT
2. The Higgs field.

They claimed to have done both.

WRONG, they are mutually exclusive. If the Higgs field really exists then the universe would have lasted about one second after inflation then collapsed back to nothing.

It's a classic example of selectively interpreting what you choose to see to support an assumption you've already made. If you want something to be true badly enough, you'll do whatever it takes to make it true - especially if it isn't.

If You're So Smart, Why Haven't You Made the Rich Richer

Owners aren't earners. These parasites demoralize and inhibit the real creators of great wealth by taking the lion's share like the subhuman predatory beasts they are.

By design of the King Ape ruling class, geniuses have their pride taken away from them from childhood on. If you swallow your pride, you choke your talent. This was the real story of the legend of Prometheus. He was used by the capitalist Zeus to get power, then chained to a rock. Science only progresses in short eras of creativity, then stagnates for centuries. We might be heading into one of those great stoppages by the end of this century.

No, they just create the conditions whereby other people can earn. Your jealousy is palpable.

You think geniuses are motivated to create by people like you wanting to punish them for it?

Socialism - the Politics of Envy.

We're stuck with childish escapist nerds doing physics. They are bitter about the fact that they are socially dysfunctional, so they hide away with their freaky friends and hope the world goes away. The real world certainly does disappear in their imaginary post-classical dogma. Disturbed neurotics, they desperately want to escape into weirdness and impracticality, which is not science. Their whole view of the universe is based on mistaken identifications and irrational explanations.

The scientific method should add a new last step: How can we use this? For example, the neutrino could have been used as sort of a Geiger counter to map out every resource beneath the Earth all the way to the core. Instead it is just a toy used to back up endless discussions of self-indulgent speculation.

(My bold)

Yah, but it isn't so much the Nobel, etc. prizes. Physical confirmation of theoretical physics is a big-budget, big-infrastructure effort. & results follow the development of the device that can allow you to see into the next decimal place. The US gave up on that pursuit, in favor of the ISS, as I recall.

Possibly a bad choice; I think there was more knowledge to be gained in pursuing the next decimal point's difference in the theory than in the ISS hardware.

Bad science has a tendency to discredit good science IMO. I'm all for good science.

Although I don't necessarily agree that you have to have a practical application lined up in advance. Pure knowledge for its own sake is what some people do to remind themselves they are more than simply animals trying to survive. Some people do that through art. Or music. Or sport. Some do it through science. And examples abound of scientific discoveries that became practical later.

Here's one:
Apple falls on Isaac Newton's head. Newton gets a clever idea with no applications relevant to the time and place whatsoever. Three hundred years later, Alan Shepard plays golf on the Moon.

Or this:
Michael Faraday builds an electric generator. William Gladstone (the Prime Minister) asks him what use it is. Faraday says I have no idea but I'm pretty sure one day you'll tax it.

Jealousy implies we'd want to be the people you claim we are jealous of. Why should we want to be Low-IQ zombies with a sick and addictive obsession to make as much money as they can, any way they can? Greed Is Suicide of the Soul. Vampires are not happy people, so why should we be "jealous" of blood-sucking Capitalists?

Socialism is merely the replacement of the Capitalist ruling class parasites by a class of politicians doing the same thing. It is a false alternative created in the prep schools by people with a Born to Rule attitude. They are just as criminal as their Right Wing fraternity brothers. You might as well be some Baptist Bible Banger accusing me of being a Mormon!
