There will be a lot more variables that pilots and air traffic controllers will have to take into consideration. Multiple angles to crosswinds, "what ifs" like engine failures,stalls, flat tires and the G forces of different landing/takeoff speeds. "Standard procedures" will not be as simple.

The runway will have progressive banking. Think Talladega race track. Depending on the landing speed and then taxiing speed, your distance up the curve could balance out the centrifugal forces. My guess is that such a system would rely heavily on computer assisted input but according to a commercial pilot friend, we are almost there now.

Joe Average in his 172 might not like it.

It is utter insanity trying to land or take off an airplane on a circular runway and I am sure that all pilots will agree with me.
