LEAVING Facebook is harder than putting down the family dog for incontinence.

Here is our handy guide to leaving the devious social media platform:

Instead of endlessly browsing your friend’s pictures, enjoy the candid thrill of peering into their windows at night.

Wear a t-shirt that tells everyone how much you raised for charity and a badge that says ‘Tell me you like me’.

Strap your cutest child to your back and take them to work to staple documents and answer your phone. That real life cuteness will beat any post of them on a donkey.

When a friend tells you something annoying that everyone one already knows is annoying, make a face like an angry toddler and stamp the ground.

Attach a public address system to your car so you can broadcast to everyone passing that your are SO PROUD OF YOUR MUM.

Go to a party and when a friend tells you about their problems just say ‘this is not worthy of my validation’ and walk away.

Decades ago (when I was dragged kicking and screaming to the world of technology/internet) ONE of the first lessons was this:

NOTHING IS PRIVATE ON THE INTERNET. NOTHING. No How. No WAY. Never.
AND this reality has multiplied ten-fold or more since then.

There are cameras in every public place. Big Brother is everywhere. Social media is exactly what it says it is. Hacking has increased. NO INFORMATION is private.
If you pay your bills online, have direct deposit, check your investments, send an email, POST AN OPINION, send an ecard, watch youtube, blog, text, buy, or even window shop online, it becomes public information.

If you don't like it--live off the grid somewhere. We'll help you pack.
What puts everything under your heading of useful things to do online at risk is what's capitalized above and bolded: "NOTHING IS PRIVATE ON THE INTERNET" Is that how it should be? And is that what we were promised? And why are so many people so weak-minded that they can't pay attention and recall the lies pointed out by Ed Snowden? In some places, people did take the Snowden revelations seriously...like Tunisia, where they overthrew a 40 year dictatorship that was stealing most of the nation's wealth and squirreling it away in Swiss bank accounts. Why couldn't similar things have happened here? Why couldn't Democrats...other than Sanders delegates and supporters who walked out, have taken action and demanded the firing of all of the DNC and DCC staff after the Podestaleaks revealed the fixing of the nomination for Hillary Clinton and other associated corruption within the Party leadership? But then that brings up the next question: why are the remaining Democratic supporters and voters so stupid that they get distracted by the concocted story that 13 Russian clickbait trollers stole the nomination from Clinton, instead of keeping their eyes focused on the obvious truth: Hillary Clinton was already a failed candidate before and if she could not defeat the most unpopular Republican candidate for the White House in history, she didn't deserve to win! And the American people are stuck with a despicable, dangerous, narcissistic dullard, and can hopefully learn from this lesson that they need to demand real democracy and real choices if they want anything better!

But, feel free to go back to Facebook and let them and other social media massage your brain about what the news is and what is and is not important in the world out there! I quit FB a long time ago because I thought it was garbage and someone my age doesn't really need it to begin with. We already have all the friends and contacts we're going to need and have time for, and if any of them have something important they want to talk to me about, they can always send an email.
Thanks from Sabcat

I'm going to LEAD with this piece of news.

LONDON — Julian Assange, the controversial founder of WikiLeaks, has been barred from using the Internet at the Ecuadoran Embassy in London, where he has been holed up for nearly six years, the Ecuadoran government announced Wednesday.

In a statement, Ecuador said it has suspended Assange’s ability to communicate with the outside world because he violated an agreement he signed with his hosts at the end of 2017 not to use his communiques to interfere in the affairs of other states. It was not immediately clear whether visitors would also be stopped.
Awww....poor Julian. The man without a country just can't get a break.

Now about Facebook--I like it. I like social media in general. I like technology and discussion sites and blogs. Why? Because I like people and I like to be informed. I like to read different opinions and sort them out. For years I taught adult education in our retirement community for seniors who wanted to learn more about social media. Great fun!

In defense of Facebook, I think it's sheer genius and I like smart people like Mark Zuckerberg and others in the industry like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook (RIP Steve Jobs), Evan Spiegel, Susan Wojcicki, and Ben Silberman--all of whom have changed the world.
Facebook and other social media have connected me with people (like DTT posters) who I might never have met or conversed with--without the help of technology.
I like learning new things--in lots of different categories including politics, religion, entertainment, conversation (slang/buzz words), world affairs/leaders, geography, healthcare, finance, environment, economy, etc. I don't want to be narrow-minded or intolerant of changes and new ideas so I keep working on that issue by reading opinions from all types of people.
I like Facebook because it connects me with people I thought I'd lost--grade school and high school friends, church members, previous students and parents, colleagues, FAMILY--my cousins!
I want to see photos of their kids and grandkids. I want to catch up on spouses, jobs, health issues, births and deaths.
I want to get recommendations and info on books, music, TV shows, local news, restaurants, real estate, travel and what's happening in my community--my backyard.
I want to know about worthy causes, fund-raising, local schools and events.
I like writing. I like words. I like people who can craft those words.

So, if along the way, I am hacked or insulted or observed or surveilled....? So what? I have absolutely nothing to hide. My life is an open book so I welcome all who enter my life and I feel pity for those whose FEAR governs their life.

That's true! How deep a friendship can you have with internet friends? It reminds me of a story...if you heard it before, from at least 10 years ago...prior to Facebook, when a teenage girl on some chat or early social media site, was threatening to kill herself, and informed everyone online with her that she took an overdose of pills....and none of her "friends" bothered to call police or any authorities in the city where she lived. That's friendship!

Sad.

Studies have shown that this shit has a very damaging effect 9n developing girls. As young boys are racing cars and killing zombies they are gossiping w/ and about one and other. I was taught from a very early age to use the word "friend" carefully.

Well, thanks for showing me why I am not a liberal again!
Welcome to upside down world, where Julian Assange...a man who has been imprisoned inside the embassy of a sympathetic country, is vilified and dying for trying to inform people about the ugly facts of this world and how our corrupt leaders lie, cheat and steal/ while effusive praise is heaped upon the transnational monopoly that has earned billions from harvesting contributors data and selling it to any 3rd party willing to buy it, and trying to manage and control news and information access...until that started to blow up lately due to some unfortunate, untimely scandals.

What did Zuckerberg do of great importance besides backstab and force out the real creative contributors who began with him that he didn't want to share the business with! But same goes for the other billionaire monopolist assholes that I recognize by name. At least Google doesn't use that "Don't Be Evil" slogan anymore, now that evil is about the only thing they do!
Thanks from Sabcat
