I wish I had written this, but it conveys my opinion beautifully. Thanks to Sarfraz Manzoor, a Brit who writes for the Guardian.

"MEN. There’s just no pleasing ’em. Occupying most of the top jobs in politics, business and topical comedy shows should have them whooping with smug delight, but instead men are in a predicament, confused about their place in the world and society’s expectations of them. Masculinity, we are told, is in a state of crisis. We live in an age of gender fluidity and abundant facial hair, of gymorexia and dadbod anxiety. And that’s before we get to the serious stuff.

Sad. There's just no focus on the inequalities men MIGHT face, is there? Life, the modern man might assume, must have been so much easier in the past, when men didn’t have to concern themselves with things such as emotions, hair transplants or raising their offspring."

Oh the inequity and struggle men have had. It's just not seemly to HUG another guy--cry at a funeral and eat quiche--be stuck in gender roles defined by society--having to be Mr. Mom SOMETIMES. The plethora of problems MEN have (as the article states) is pure unadulterated horse manure.

People of both genders have huge responsibilities. Both genders DEFINE THEMSELVES every single day. Millions of men have and DO care for children; earn less than women; organize kitchens--cook, clean, do the laundry. Men DO cry. Men DO hug. Men do take yoga classes and attend their children's sports/arts events. Men DO HAVE guy friends.

So what's the problem?? The problem has nothing to do with gender roles. The problem is all about each individual facing their unique responsibilities HEAD ON--deciding what kind of PERSON they want to be and then BEING that person. Real men (and women) respect others, care about their appearance, speak and behave with grace; maintain qualities ranging from being affectionate, to kind,& faithful. Approach life with a sense of humor. Be complimentary. Embrace personal responsibility.
We're all fighting some kind of battle and that has nothing to do with gender. We all have to step up to the plate and SWING. Sometimes we don't make it to first base. Other times we hit it out of the park.
