That was a wonderful way of expressing that reality. Thanks, Clara.

Not to take away from the point and with due respect, but I had only one thing going for me judging from this videos hypothesis. Well actually half of it. I had a father in my life growing up, but he was drunk most of the time from the moment I was born until I reached adulthood. Other than that, how am I supposed to relate with the people up front? I don't. Nor can I relate with those in the middle or at the back either.

Most if not all, of these people will get more out of their lives than I could ever imagine for my wife and I
And I'm Exceedingly happy for them.

I don't view life and the surrounding society as the privileged juxtaposed with victims. Life to me is simply getting on with it and navigating it the best I can with what ever hand I've been dealt and with what little I've been given to survive it. No sjw to advocate for people in predictaments like mine. No liberal minority to sympathize with such plights. No conservative to shame me for mistakes in my life. The only thing constant that has been there for me is my belief in my religion my wife and my self.

Sorry. But this still strikes me as naive and poor representation In what they were trying to achieve.

Signed,
A person who fell between the cracks
Thanks from imaginethat

Okay, first of all...I can't figure you out. Do you ever have a strong opinion...on anything?? Is there anything or anyone you want so badly--so earnestly that you're willing to fight for it?
Second, I have no idea whether you got the point of this video or not. I assume you did but the body of your post implies otherwise.

So let me spell it out for you. Privilege: special rights, advantages available to some but not to others. I am not talking about "victims" specifically, but about every day things such as a solid family unit, a good education, good health, a safe environment, love/affection, nutritious meals--enough money. Many of us (including me) take these things for granted.

To me the video is about awareness--nothing more. I came from a family of volunteers. The attitude I grew up with was sort of a "volunteering is the rent we pay for life". From the time I was a toddler my parents and grandparents dragged me to every event they attended and I was given a job. As I grew older and attended more of these events I saw people who looked "funny" or "acted weird" so I said this to my grandmother. She said "Don't ever forget that you had/have advantages that some people never get."

I posted the video to remind all of us of our many blessings/advantages--to remember that not everyone has been as blessed.
Thanks from RNG

So what is the purpose of this?

Is it to argue that the state should prop up barriers to prevent anyone from "winning", or is it to argue that the state should take down or refrain from propping up any barriers that prevent everyone from finishing the race?

One of my friends back in middle school was a "black dude" & we were both on the track team and ran the 880 yard dash. I remember at the regional event he won that race by beating everyone else by what seemed like about half a lap! It was like spotting bigfoot in the middle of the woods seeing him run so fast, compared to everyone else. That's not what I most significantly remember about him, though; what I do most significantly remember about him is how impressively good his grades were. If his grades were compared to 100 random people, I would expect his grades to smoke those 100 random people.

Also, what does parents still being married (or even ever being married at all) have to do with opportunity?

While i appreciate your efforts for the thread I just see this differently than it is being discussed currently, as primarily a minority issue, when it is an issue that affects Americans of any ethnicities, yes including whites. If you want to know what I'm passionate about pm your questions if you wish and I'll answer them?

Here is matt Christianson addressing this viral video some 8 months ago, when it was going around and probably when the 1st thread on this subject was going.

If you took the time to watch the "race" please also take the time to watch this examination
