Venezuela, Russia May Hold Joint Naval Exercises

President Hugo Chavez said Sunday that Venezuelan and Russian ships could soon hold joint naval exercises in the Caribbean a move that would likely raise concerns in Washington.

"Russia's naval fleet is welcome here," Chavez said on his weekly broadcast program. "If it's possible, we'll stage an exercise in our Caribbean waters."

Russian naval vessels are due to call on Venezuelan ports in late November or December, Chavez said.

The socialist leader ridiculed any concerns U.S. officials might have, saying, "Go ahead and squeal, Yankees."

Granted Venezuela is basking in their relatively new-found sense of self-determination and anti-imperialism, and I like them for that, but perhaps Chavez can attract a little too much unwanted attention sometimes.

I'm just waiting for the fallout from those individuals, who don't know yet that the 'cold war' is over, to get wind of this and start with the 'we're going to be nuked!' to start...

Big deal. Venezuela is going to monkey-fart with the Russian Navy with their handful of coastal patrol boats.

Considering Russia is sending a nuclear powered battle ship, you probably wont have to wait to long.

Well, to be fair, the United States sends nuclear-powered vessels to the shores of countries it does not like, not to do naval exercises, but instead to intimidate and to coerce.

Indeed we do. Still to me, no way in hell we let them bring nuclear weapons within easy striking distance of our shores. This is kinda like the cuban missle crisis. If I were pres, Id tell them their ship will never make it to the C sea, might as well turn back. You bet your ass they would tell us the same.
