According to Google the draft for the WWII build up started May 16, 1940.

They Were Expendable was made in 1945.

It's not Wayne's fault that the RW hold him up as some sort of "ultimate American icon." Hell, they are fucking idiots for the most part, what do you expect?

Did you know Jimmy Stewart retired from the Air Force reserves a Brigadier General?
Yeah, absolutely I know about Jimmie Stewart One of the few Republicans I have COMPLETE respect for. Yes sir, he did make Brigadier before he retired. I understand he was a fine pilot and soldier, as well as a great actor.

Regarding Marlene Dietrich: I'm not questioning Wayne's judgement in woman flesh, merely his patriotism

True enough it's not Wayne's fault the wingers held him up as an example of a true patriot, but it is his fault he played along with them. I like his acting, although he had no range to speak of, but he was a flawed man, like all men.

I agree. However, Wayne WAS an actor and that RW worship of him WAS very profitable. Hey, the guy had two ex-wives and 7 children to support.

I've never completely understood RW constant bashing of "Hollywood" while simultaneously worshiping certain members of that establishment and voting in TWO 2nd rate actors for President.

Communists used to infiltrate on the sneak so they could move up the ladder. At least this guy was cashiered before it was too late:

Rapone, you may recall, is the avowed Marxist and Antifa supporter who posted pictures of himself on social media promoting pro-communist messages and expressing an intention to infiltrate the U.S. military.
