BUT, the thing you're missing is that the entire electorate is energized. Trump is also fucking his base with the tax code this year. The people who felt overlooked are going to feel betrayed. Look at what just happened in 2018. When everyone sees their tax bills, Trump is toast. Trust me, Trump just fucked himself on taxes alone.

He may have just set the stage for AOC. We'll just see what happens.
Agreed, but please, let's not repeat the cockiness of 2016.

Hey folks, she is a young first term congressperson with some ideas. So what? She has no power in the House and is just expressing some bold concepts, for which she was elected.

The hysteria of the Right should not be seen for anything more than a reflection of their inability to see issues or political statements with ANY objectivity.

It is all extreme Right political theater. They are afraid of a 29 year old idealist??? Don't play into that Hate Media opposition-- they are old, desiccated , effete partisans who love to create controversy where there is none.

I completely agree. AOC is young and she has a fire in her belly---and GOOD FOR HER! I don't have to agree with her but I like that FIRE--that passion. Alex will learn. She's riding the wave right now. AND you are right about her limited power.
Elections have consequences. How many times have we heard it--seen it in print. THIS IS one of those consequences.

This is wakey-wakey time for America---the whole Trump administration has been a reality check. Is it really so surprising that a young woman like AOC would rattle some cages? I love it.

AND (once again) let's keep in mind that this country is changing dramatically. Our demographics, our economy, our strengths and weaknesses---all evolving. We are no longer JUST a white, Christian nation, are we? Sorry. That must be a terrible shock to some but try reading some statistics. Take a look at the census numbers.

We are about to hand-off our country to the next generation, whether it's in 2020 or 2024. It will happen. The Greatest Generation is dying off. The Boomers are retiring. Gen X is coming up. Millens and Gen Z are voting. Those TWO generations make up over 50% of our population. If that isn't life-altering I don't know what is. If you're afraid of socialism you're in for a very bumpy ride.
Buckle your seatbelts, friends.

The big scare is still the fear just the word "socialism" instills in so many Americans. And as I said, just go back to the SOTU speech. This is just the boogieman Trump was waiting for.

The younger generations don't have the same knee-jerk reaction to the world but they are both too small a segment and tend to not vote.

So I share IT's fear.
That green new deal is actually a capitalist idea. Creating jobs on a growing sector of the energy sector of the economy. On the other side are Republicans, and their propping up of the fossil fuel industry through subsidies and tax cuts. I believe that is socialism. And AOC will sell it that way, and will be successful.

As far as Trump goes, he will face indictment at some point. At he very least if it is strung out as far as it can possibly be taken, he will face state charges in NY, and there will be no Congress, Vice President, or Supreme Court that can save him from that.

AOC is 29 years old. Most Republicans that hate her are in the 55 and up age bracket.

Guess who's politics are going to win in the end?

I hope so. AOC et al are playing right into Trump's hand. AOC et al can do more damage than the Russkis.

Actually, in a real way AOC is playing right into Putin's hand.
AOC and her nutcases are driving Blue Dogs back to the Republican party.

Some Yellow dogs are talking running 3rd party in 2020 starting a 3rd party consisting of democrats that sill have brains that are not mush.

Yes she has a fire in her belly.. So did Jefferson Davis, another Politican that did not care about the security of the US as a nation.

The most worrisome aspect of this whole kerfuffle is really that Republicans are afraid of an IDEA. They want thought control! They want to suppress any thinking that does not fit neatly into their dogma. That is the scary aspect of Trump and his zombie minions.

Ironic statement from TNV73. Conservatism is inherently similar to Southern states' rights thinking. Time for you to consider the implications of your Right Wing dogma.

The right wing (the real RW leaders at least) are terrified of AOC, just look at the resources they deploy against her, compared to the resources they deploy against say, Ayanna Presley (a relatively young black woman who also primaried a 20 year congressman in a safe Democratic seat)

AOC has CHARISMA in fucking spades, she is brilliant, the camera loves her, she understands politics better than 99% of the people involved, she is a master of social media and she has a bold agenda and all that adds up to a nightmare for the GOP.

With three weeks to go before her primary, she was down by 36%, she won by 15%, that's a 51% swing in three weeks. She says herself, she didn't convince anyone who was going to vote for Crowley to change sides, she convinced people who weren't going to vote, to vote.
In virtually every election in America, there are many more people who stay home, who would have supported the loser, than the margin of victory.
AOC's superpower is using media and grass roots organization to energize these stay at homes, to get off the couch and down to the polls.
And she is especially appealing to the demographics that have the most stay at home voters, she is mining the richest veins of untapped votes in the nation.
If everyone who voted for Trump, votes Republican in 2020, and every one who voted for Hillary votes Democratic in 2020, but the Democrats bring in a relatively small percentage of the people who would normally not vote, which includes huge numbers of young people, of people of color, the Democrats could win a wave election, they could end up with the White House, the House and 60 votes in the Senate, that's there in 2020 if they can mobilize those untapped votes. That's the end of ObamaCare, replaced by Medicare for all, it's the rejiggering of the tax rates to pre-Reagan levels, it's massive infrastructure projects and it's regulations that preserve clean air, clean water and safe food supplies. It's real action on climate change, and with the changes she brings to the electorates, Republicans will go along with a lot of this to protect their seats.

This would not require anyone to change their mind on who to vote for, "A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still", there are people who voted for Trump, who have lost their jobs, who realize that none of the promises Trump made will be kept, and they will vote for him in 2020.

Trump's biggest advantage was all the free media he got, because he was a spectacle that increased ratings, so is AOC, she's all over the media, because the media loves the ratings she brings, she out trumps Trump.
And he has already gotten most of the disgruntled old white men up and to the polls, there's not a lot of untapped potential in his forte.
AOC has the star power, and it's proven to work outside the Bronx, on the national stage, and it appears to be most effective with the demographics that form the largest untapped pool of voters in virtually every state in the union.

And that is why the real leaders of the RW are terrified of a young Latina from the Bronx.
