Have we really spent billions of tax payer dollars on study by a cartoonist ?

https://youtu.be/moblrV8df-I
We can disregard the video right off the bat because they identify John Cook as a “cartoonist”. Now he may have done some work as a cartoonist, I don’t know but it isn’t his career.

John Cook
John is a Research Assistant Professor at the Center for Climate Change Communication at George Mason University. He holds a PhD in cognitive psychology at the University of Western Australia and a Bachelor of Science at the University of Queensland, achieving First Class Honours with a major in physics. He co-authored the 2011 book Climate Change Denial: Heads in the Sand with Haydn Washington, the 2013 college textbook Climate Change Science: A Modern Synthesis with Tom Farmer, and the 2016 college textbook Climate Change: Examining the Facts with Daniel Bedford. He also lead-authored the paper Quantifying the Consensus on anthropogenic global warming in the scientific literature, which was tweeted by President Obama and was awarded the best paper published in Environmental Research Letters in 2013. He co-hosts the podcast Evidence Squared with Peter Jacobs

Furthermore, as the above bio states, he was the lead author of the study which means he was no the only author. The video doesn’t even mention that there were other authors.

Exactly right. The first thing I did (and always do) is fact check. Cook DOES have a PhD in science and physics. Cook also founded the Skeptical Science website.

Here is the info for the published study (peer-reviewed) and other authors.

http://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/8/2/024024/meta

From the article: The ISI search generated 12,465 papers. Eliminating papers that were not peer-reviewed (186), not climate-related (288) or without an abstract (47) reduced the analysis to 11 944 papers written by 29 083 authors and published in 1980 journals. To simplify the analysis, ratings were consolidated into three groups: endorsements (including implicit and explicit; categories 1–3 in table 2), no position (category 4) and rejections (including implicit and explicit; categories 5–7).

We examined four metrics to quantify the level of endorsement:

(1)
The percentage of endorsements/rejections/undecideds among all abstracts.
(2)
The percentage of endorsements/rejections/undecideds among only those abstracts expressing a position on AGW.
(3)
The percentage of scientists authoring endorsement/ rejection abstracts among all scientists.
(4)
The same percentage among only those scientists who expressed a position on AGW (table 3).

Actually I don’t think he has a PhD in physics, “only” a masters.

Still he isn’t a “cartoonist”

Maybe not professionally, but I doubt he'd be offended if somebody without context referred to him as one. What's amazing is how many top scientists/engineers are very creative people OFF the job. You can't just turn it off. So most of those people play instruments, write books, draw, paint, you name it.

So he is a professional propagandist.

One of my favorite things about the cult of leftism is that you guys list off stuff like that and dont even realize that it helps make the oppositions point for them.

Never heard of John Cook or the other pseudo-scientists you mentioned. Pseudo-Scientists need grants of public money to fund their fake research.

Isn't calling people liars childish? I was interested in people's response to something I would ignore. The title appeals to emotions, not our intelligence. This is what has gone wrong. Too many people don't understand those emotional appeals are not about understanding reality. They are about getting people riled up.

I think the character of the forum is changing. More and more people are disgusted with that trash.

Am I right? Is that a derogatory statement about people and a research project you know nothing about? How do you justify that?
