A Different Reality.

I find it amazing how Trump supporters are able to just ignore the facts. Forsaking reason for what they want to believe. I sometimes wonder how this is done. I wondered for a while how it was possible to ignore logic.

I have realized today how it is done.

Trump supporters are able to take in anything they do not like hearing (Trump rapes women, locks up children, etc) and immediately denounce it in their head. Giving it no further logical focus. It leaves their opinions and arrogant views untouched by logic.

They slowly build a massive ignorance complex in their head. To the point that it becomes a natural deterrent to logic. This then leads the redneck to more conspiracies which naturally supports what they want to hear and gives them the idea that they are exposing the biggest conspiracies in the world with their superior logic. Nothing could be farther than the truth.

Finally, the ignorance complex reaches its peak. To the point where the orange man they listen to can literally create alternate realities in Trump supporters minds. A reality where everything he says is true and only Trump can stop the imaginary problems he has created in this alternate reality.

The most prominent example of this was the "alternative facts" provided by Kellyanne Conway and Sean Spicer. Sean Spicer said that Trump's inauguration was the "largest audience to ever witness an inauguration – period – both in person and around the globe". Despite this being blatantly false. Kellyanne later coined these phrases as "alternative facts". Facts that really aren't facts. Just feelings. They want to feel like they are super intelligent beings and Trump is the best leader ever who had the greatest amount of people in his inauguration. This is why the word "feel" was so prominent at the RNC in 2016.

This country is slowly becoming more focused on feelings. Leaving facts for how they want to feel. This will steer us on a dark path of fallacies and poor leadership if we do not do our research, destroy the ignorance complex and return to our reality.

The Founder knew it would never last, nothing does, but it's exactly why they fearing a direct democracy, and the Electoral College was supposed to stop men like Trump, as was the non-direct election of Senators. As you can see, they got this concern right...

This is a phenomenon I truly do not understand. My friends run the gamut of the political range. Well not fully as the most liberal of my friends are still capitalists at heart. None rise to anything approaching socialism much less worse. There are a couple at the very opposite end. Real knuckle dragging Neanderthals. The only reason I stay connected on FB is they are family. Which is why I rarely see them.

There is one group that totally confounds me. People I’ve known, called friend, and worked with in some cases 20 years. People I’ve spent long hours having highly intelligent conversations with over after dinner coffee. They are educated. Mostly masters degrees. Some worked with me in the technical side of the business. Dealing with things most people couldn’t begin to understand. They are not stupid. They aren’t even ignorant.

Yet it is from this group that on a nearly weekly basis I see memes forwarded by them.

Memes that are totally and completely false !!!

Their favorite is the one saying all dems just voted down Social Security pay raise. The other, a long one, again about social security, how it was supposed to be voluntary etc etc 90% of it total lies, showed up just this week.

I just cannot for the life of me understand how other wise normal, rational, highly intelligent people can set aside their reason and logic and spread this kind of absolute untruth and garbage??

I guess Robert Heinlein was right !

I was actually mainly talking about the Trumpanzees. Ya know, how they ignore the russia probe, dating porn stars, bragging about sexual assault, starting ego wars, colluding with foreign governments, having half your campaign team in jail, acting like an actual child, telling people to go back to their countries, being racist, calling nazi's "good people", getting campaign support from the KKK, hurting American farmers with expensive trade wars and a bunch of other things.

I don't think putting politics over reason is anything that's exclusive to Trump supporters. I think AOC put it well when she said "If people want to really blow up one figure here or one word there, I would argue that they’re missing the forest through the trees .. I think that there’s a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct than about being morally right.”

AOC not only exhibits the post-fact-based reasoning you describe, she's proud of it.

read title and maybe first sentence > make ignorant comment

it's actually part of the mindset the OP is referring to

~~~
that being said, projection is a big part of it too
I've seen so many trumpers literally describe themselves and/or trump when complaining about "the left" or "liberals" or whatever
and whataboutism, good lord
I've never seen a group of people so willingly confessing something is terrible by immediately whatabouting it
~~~

it's a cult of personality, one like we've never seen before
