No one paid a 90% income tax in the 1950s.
Which is not the same as no one had a portion of their income assessed at 90%!
The biggest difference between the 50's thru 70's and today is under progressive taxation, a business owner had a strong incentive to keep reinvesting profits into the business, rather than the constant profit-taking of today's low executive tax regime.

I don't get too excited or worked up about income taxes anyway because that's not how the superrich collect most of their loot! They earn their money as investment income and reinvesting profits into buying back company stocks.
